Pendleton District Commission
Pendleton District included the present day counties of Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens. The entire town is on the National Register of Historic Places. A landmark is the Pendleton Farmers Society Hall, built in 1828 by a society begun in 1815. More than fifty buildings pre-date 1850, and there is a self-guided walking tour and a cassette tape tour.
Pendleton Historic Foundation
The Pendleton Historic Foundation was founded in 1960 to save the historic house at Woodburn at a time when its future was in peril. While funds were being raised to restore Woodburn, Mead Paper Company donated Ashtabula and 10 acres to the Foundation to protect it from an uncertain future as well. The Foundation now ownes and operates two of the largest Upcountry plantation houses as house museums for the enjoyment and education of visitors of all ages.
South Carolina Heritage Corridor

What Is A Sister City?

Category: File - :Neckarsulm PartnerStaedte.jpg|thumb|Sign denoting twin towns of Neckarsulm, Germany

Sister cities, also known as town twinning, is an agreement between towns, cities and even counties in geographically and politically distinct areas to promote cultural and commercial ties. In the United Kingdom the term twin towns is most commonly used, generally referring to town-twinning with Europe, differentiating with the term sister cities which is used for twinnings with the USA. In Europe, a variety of terms are used; most commonly twin towns, but partnership towns, partner towns and friendship towns, are also used. Germany uses Partnerstadt (Partner Town/City), France uses Ville Jumelée (Twin Town/City).North America, South Asia, Australasia and Asia generally use the term sister cities. In the former Soviet Bloc countries twin towns is used, as well as the term brother cities which is also used on occasion.

Sometimes other government bodies enter into a "twinning" relationship, such as the agreement between the provinces of Hainan in China and Jeju-do in South Korea, or between Chinatown, Washington, D.C. and Beijing.

The Douzelage is a town twinning association with one town from each of the member states of the European Union.

Thriving metropolis, nestled neatly in the foothills of the "Blue Wall"(Blue Ridge Mountains), cultural center of the South and Sports Capital of the World! Located exactly halfway between Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA (2hrs each way)and pleasantly perched on the "high ground" adjacent to the(newly enlarged) shoreline of Hartwell Lake! Four & 1/2 hours to the beach, 20 minutes to Lake Keowee, 50 minutes to Lake Jocasse and the mountains, 2 hours from Augusta and The Masters... The Pendleton Spring Jubilee , Bluegrass Under the Stars... Woodburn, Ashtabula, etc... fine dining and shopping on the square... Karaoke and Jingling draft at the Islander...Four distinct seasons to enjoy...so Naaah... there's probably not that much for you to see and do here! The TV ads say Michigan's a nice place to live?

Tipi says:

Pendleton SC sounds like a wonderful place to live. I'm a country girl at heart and would love to explore the surroundings of nature and meet the natives. I have always wanted to visit SC, but have never made it.

You sure do give a grand picture of Pendleton my dear! I believe I would enjoy a stay. My heart is to move back to Kabetogama Lake, where I am from and be near my Mom. She will be 82 this week.

Joan4 says:

I did live in Pendleton as a youngster. Pendleton is such a busy happy place.

OhMe says:

I'm not a tourist, I live here and proud of it! Can you tell?

I have lived in Pendleton for over 50 years and love my town and all the people in it. I don't act in any official capacity but just love to promote it. My husband (Doc)has practiced medicine here for almost 50 years and is on his 5th generation of patients. We've been married for 30 wonderful years and have one daughter, one son, a new daughter in law and one grandchild. Our daughter and grandson live in Pendleton and we love our role as parents and grandparents. We are truly blessed with a great family and great friends.
