Are You A 2 Ton Elephant?

I do not mean to offend anyone with that title, but just bear with me here. The great philosopher Maxwell Maltz tells the following story.

Did you know that full grown circus elephants have been known to die in fires while chained to small stakes they could easily move? 2 ton animals trumpeting in fear as the flames and smoke slowly take away their last breath. Why is that?

It is because when the elephant was a baby, it had a 2 inch band strapped around its leg, which was then fastened to a stake that was hammered into the ground.

As a baby, she soon learned the futility of trying to pull free of the chain, and mentally, accepted is a part of her life. By the time she had grown strong and powerful, she had stopped trying to break free, seeing it as fruitless.

As long as she was fed and given the occasional peanut as a treat, she was content. Then the fire came, and she died when she could have easily escaped.

That is the way you and I are sometimes. We allow our life and abilities to be defined by "chains" we could easily snap, because we have been conditioned to believe things that simply are not true.

The problem is that we, like the elephant, have believed some downright lies about ourselves that were impressed upon us as a child.

Negative Input

They mean well

The child who constantly hears his father say,"You don't need that" or "We do not have that kind of money" grows up believing, "I do not deserve to be wealthy."

The lady who grew up with obese parents who taught her poor eating habits, and then told her,"Not everyone can be skinny" and "Those skinny people are unhealthy" becomes the adult who says,"I was just meant to be fat."

And the man who grew up hearing his parents berate his older sister, "He is not good enough for you" or "He is only after one thing" tells himself, "I will never attract the type of mate I want."

Does It Have To Be This Way?

Unlike the elephant, we are rational human beings with creative imaginations.

We can create the mental image that we desire in our life.

Besides, did you know your subconscious mind believes anything you repeatedly tell it to be true, regardless of fact?

That is how we got stuck with our bad patterns in the first place.

Start reconditioning your subconscious to create the ideal you. Since your subconscious believes whatever mental picture you give it, why not create a positive mental picture to replace the negative one that has limited you your whole life?

If we can believe it and conceive it, we can achieve it. Promise yourself to break free of your chains today.

3 things you should know about self improvement

1 - Failure is an event, not a person. It is not who you are, just something that happened. Successful people fail much more than unsuccessful people, because they brush it off and keep going.

2 - Insanity is expecting different results from the same actions. If you continue to do the things you have done, you will continue to get the same end result. You must do what you have never done to be what you have never been.

3 - Self Improvement is a journey, not a destination. Get started on the greatest trip you will ever take today.
