eBaY Bargains - Or NOT?

The end of an era...

EBAY, the world's marketplace for the new, the unusual, the hard to find, the difficult to replace items is changing.

No longer will buyers be able to finish their special collection, or replace that stuffed animal that John or Julie has had for years.

EBAY intends to shift their business model to cater to the largest online sellers willing to align. EBAY will begin this transition in 2008, and will be more like a Walmart or an Amazon - a super-sized e-Commerce Center with new mass produced, mass distributed electronics and more.

Good for EBAY? Good for our economy? Good for buyers?

No.
No.
No.

No to all 3 - my opinion only because:

EBAY's systems are backwards to what they need to do. They are built for 'selling' vs. built for 'buying'. To shift their business model, they'll need major system upgrades.

Many members of ebaY make their living from EBAY. There are single parents, disabled sellers, and many other workers who made a living on EBAY who are now or soon to be unemployed.

Ah....the poor buyers. With the changes coming to the system for search, good luck finding what you want when you want to. The results will be returned very similar to Google - he who pays the most 'wins' in the search engine game.

It's a shame, a real shame. EBAY was built upon a unique idea to bring buyers and sellers together into a market place where products out of reach could be found. New, Used, Unusual, Antiques, Collectibles, Records, Albums - you name it - it was on EBAY. Those days are gone folks. You're much better off going to Walmart, Target, K-Mart, Sears or Amazon.COM. The service is better, the selection is better and the prices are better.

When is a Deal of the Day NOT a DEAL?

Smart Tips to Ensure you are Actually Saving!

So, you've found the best thing since sliced bread! And...according to what you're reading, it's the 'deal of the day'. So - is it, or isn't it? Rules of thumb to ensure your purchase is all that and more for you!

1. If the site you are on claims it to be the deal of the day, and shows a discount of xx%, do some quick searching to 'see' if it's truly the best price.

Sometimes it is, and many times - it is not.

Lesson Learned: % off of MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) often means 'nothing' when shopping online!

You can search using Google Products, Yahoo Shopping and several others that are discussed on About.com.

    I have had enough. BOYCOTT I SAY!! I had used ebay since the beginning and it has just gotten too greedy and big for it's own britches, I can no longer just list stuff to sell unless it makes $20 or more between the fees and then paypal fees on top of that it doesnt pay so I started a no listing fees ever swap meet type of website www.i-swap-meet.com to show my protest. Heck I am even starting an affiliate/referral system for profit sharing with hopes that I can Start a new Online auctioning and classifieds business model. so please go get a free account at www.i-swap-meet.com and help boycott high fees an actually put more money in your own pockets where it belongs!!
