2XU - Compression Clothing for Increased Performance and Improved Recovery

2XU is an Australian company that produces a technical range of sports apparel that gives athletes improvement at all levels. Their run, swim, cycle, triathlete and fitness lines are designed with careful development and rigorous testing to improve anti-chafing, thermal regulation, moisture management and support which yields a far superior level of performance and recovery.

The jewel in their crown, however, is their compression line, which delivers all of the benefits of their clothing lines, and adds improved circulation, and heightened stability and agility while providing reduced muscle vibration/muscle fatigue and reduced soft muscle tissue damage.

All of this is coupled with 2XU Compression's flexibility in performance roles during activity, training and competition and in recovery roles when you're sleeping, traveling or just hanging around at home in between marathons, Ironmans, swim meets, football games, soccer matches or whatever you're into.

2XU compression clothing embodies Human Performance Multiplied - Your energy and ability magnified, allowing you to work out and compete longer, stronger, faster, and more frequently after past workouts and competitions.

How Does 2XU Compression Work and What Does it Do For Athletes?

2XU is revolutionary for its use of higher quality DuPont Lycra and Nylon assembled to produce the best fit and most efficient compression.

2XU Compression features:

  • Circular Knit which produces 360 degree stretch, moves with the muscle mass in every direction and provides stronger and more flexible compression
  • 50/70 Denier Lycra (the Denier rating indicating the thickness of the yarn) which is stronger and applies more compressive power while making for a more comfortable garment which reduces chafing
  • Graduated Compression which optimizes blood flow and improves circulation from and to the extremities
  • Silver Ion antibacterial protection provides for longer wear with less odor and bacterial buildup
  • Flatlock stitching for improved quality, longer wear, and more comfort through reduced seam chafing

With all of these features, 2XU can deliver compression results that no other garment can confer:

  • Faster warm up and improved oxygen circulation - Encourages blood to the muscles, resulting in better thermal regulation in hot and cold weather
  • Reduced muscle vibration, which is linked to muscle fatigue, thereby improving muscle endurance, stability and strength
  • Reduced damage as muscle containment reduces soft tissue damage in contact and endurance sports.
  • Recovery through therapeutic-rated fabric which provides greater pressure leading to faster muscle repair during down time. Preventative support aids in recovery for faster workout and competition turnaround
  • Improved moisture management and sun protection

With a wide range of products, athletes can use one piece of compression for problem areas, or wear a combination of pieces that fit their personal preferences to effect full body compression for increased circulation, improved muscle stability and stamina, improved agility and perception and more comfort.

Compression Socks - Performance Race

2XU offers two kinds of socks, both performance and recovery. We'll start with the race sock and discuss the recovery sock shortly.

This is a unisex sock, but it features a unique cushioned foot bed designed for each foot (there's a left and a right), which provides improved comfort and performance for the toes, sole and heel.

The race sock also has a higher compression than the recovery sock to promote more muscle strength and stamina during activity.

The race sock is ideal for runners and other athletes who want foot and calf compression and also benefits those who suffer from plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, foot pain, calf pain and shin splints.

Since the race sock is a long sock, it is ideal for people who prefer to wear long socks. They pair well with the compression short for total leg compression for athletes who like to wear a full sock.

For those who don't like long socks, consider the calf sleeve below (which also pairs well with the compression short).

Compression Socks - Recovery

2XU also offers a high quality recovery sock designed to help athletes in between workouts and competitions, and during any other downtime.

The recovery socks provide the same quality materials and construction at a slightly lower level of compression. These comfortable socks allow for improved circulation and support for muscles to reduce pain, cramps and swelling while reducing the time required to get back to activity, and at a higher level of readiness.

2XU recovery socks also help protect against Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) during travel or any other time when you're confined to varying pressures or long hours seated (like at work), making them ideal for travel, work and other situations where you are seated or on your feet for long periods of time.

Recovery socks can even be worn to bed to help optimize the time spent when your body is shut down and regenerating through sleep.

Those wearing recovery socks can also benefit from wearing compression shorts to apply hip and thigh compression along with the foot and calf compression received from the socks during downtime.

Compression Calf Guards

2XU Calf Guards come in two styles - with and without stirrups.

Calf Guards provide the same quality leg compression of the tights and the socks, but focuses on the calf area, providing improved circulation and muscle stamina for the soleus and gastroc muscles and helps deal with cramping and shin splints.

The calf guard with stirrups stays in place for sports requiring shin protection and also enhances support for the Achilles tendon.

The calf guard without stirrups are ideal for runners and other athletes who won't have additional gear potentially moving the sleeve.

Calf guards are preferred by athletes who would rather use short socks, and those who wear layered gear, with and without shin protection.

The calf guard can be coupled with the compression short for additional hip and thigh compression.

Calf guards can be used for performance and for recovery.

Calf Guards are unisex and sizing is based on the measurement around the meatiest part of the calf muscle.

Compression Shorts

2XU Compression Shorts provide improved circulation, muscle stability and reduced fatigue from the hip to just above the knee.

Compression shorts provide additional stability to the hamstrings quads, IT Bands Glutes and Piriformis muscles and are ideal for those who want hip and thigh compression, but don't want the knee compression of the full tights.

As a result, the compression shorts can be paired wonderfully with either the socks or calf guards, or worn by themselves to improve circulation and muscle stamina for hips and thighs.

Compression shorts can be worn for performance and for recovery.

Compression shorts are fitted for mens' and womens' physiques and are sized accordingly.

Compression Tights - Elite and Competition Models

Regular compression tights are made from the same high quality 50 denier DuPont Lycra and Nylon and provide the same level of graduated compression as the socks, calf guards and shorts, accept that they cover from the hip to ankle for complete leg compression including the knee. This gives you all of the compression benefits that the other pieces confer, in addition to greater knee stability, increased circulation working more efficiently from ankle to hip, and providing connective compression from the IT bands to their connection at the knee.

Elite tights go one step further by providing a combination of 50 and 70 denier material which allows a higher level of performance including 15% more support and 25% more compressive power. Elite tights are also fitted for men and women specifically guaranteeing proper fit for increased performance.

Sizing for both the regular and elite tights are just as with the compression shorts, but also allow for Tall men's sizes giving the best fit possible for taller athletes.

Compression Shirts - Long Sleeve, Short Sleeve and Sleeveless

To compliment their full line of leg and foot compression, 2XU has three different styles of compression shirts to promote comfort and fit, while stile providing the same level of circulation, temperature regulation, muscle stamina and stability, and proprioception.

All of 2XU's shirts provide compression across the chest and abdomen to aid in circulation and to reduce muscle fatigue while practicing, training and competing.

Long and short sleeve compression shirts provide additional graduated compression along the arms and shoulders to further improve performance, while the sleeveless shirts provide a lower profile.

2XU compression shirts come in both black and white.

Just as with the compression tights, shirts come in men's and women's sizes for the proper fit and optimized performance.

Compression Arm Sleeves are Here!

For those who just want compression in arms, just as the calf sleeves provide bloodflow back to the heart for the legs.

Originally designed just for the forearms, the new 2XU compression arm sleeves are available and provide arm compression from wrist to the top of the bicep, improving critical blood flow back to the heart during exercise that tends to cause blood to pool in the hands and reduce circulatory efficiency.

Perfect for long distance runners, triathletes and extreme sports enthusiasts.

Hi there, I have 2 questions...
    1. I heard 2XU are releasing a sleaveless compression type vest, can you advise if this is true?
    2. Previously I purchased several of the 2XU crew neck sleaveless compression tops, and they are just great! Only down side is the neck line is a bit high for under a work shirt - do 2XU make slightly lower neck lined compression tops for men?

    Many thanks

This is the only sleeveless compression top I know about. I'm pretty sure it doesn't come in a lower neck line or other style, but 2XU is innovating all the time and may come out with another option eventually - http://www.2xu.com/compression/ma1470a.html

Being right on the cusp, I recommend going smaller so the XS would be best. If you have the means to try both I recommend it, but with compression you want as tight as will fit, without constricting or being too loose by going up a size.
