What is metabolism?

Your body's metabolism is in charge of burning the calories that you eat and reducing your overall weight. All of our bodies have natural rates in metabolism. However, some people have higher metabolic rates, or faster rates of burning calories and fat, than others. This is primarily the reason why some slim people can still eat a lot and not gain weight. Some fat people, on the other hand, have low metabolism so they get fatter instantly after eating in a buffet.

The good news is, you can change the rate of your body's metabolism. There are studies already proving that certain foods and activities can help you boost metabolism. You will not get an accurate measurement of the increase in your metabolism. However, these methods are a sure way of boosting your metabolism and getting rid of that last 5 pounds of fat in your body!

I have posted 3 easy steps to follow in order to boost your metabolism. These are NOT the only ways to boost metabolism. However, I think that these 3 steps easy for everyone to follow and do in a regular basis.

Boosting your metabolism is easier than it actually sounds. Try to always remember the steps and do them regularly to ensure that your way on boosting metabolism and losing weight.

Again, these are not the only ways of boosting metabolism. However, I really found these 3 methods easy to follow and adapt in your daily activities because I also do these methods myself!

1. Drink Water

Drinking water will boost your metabolism. So drink MORE than 8 glasses of water.

A tip in drinking more water- drink 2 glasses of water every single time you try to drink water. With practice, you'll be drinking more water in no time (and losing weight at the same time).

2. Eat more protein

Protein gives a higher metabolic boost than carbs and fat. Also, protein helps build more muscle than the other food groups.

Add more protein (chicken, fish, nuts, pork) to your meals and replace some of your carbs (rice, bread). Try to cut down on fats (oil, fried foods) as well.

3. Build muscle

More muscle in the body equals higher metabolic rates. Get rid of body fat and build more muscle.

Metabolism to lose weightYup, those 3 easy steps are your first building blocks in boosting metabolism, increasing metabolic rate and losing weight. These 3 easy steps in boosting metabolism must be done regularly. Otherwise, you wouldn't notice any difference in your weight and general health and fitness. Remember:

Drink more than 8 glasses of water. Try to drink water when you wake up, before, during and after eating a meal, and before you sleep.

Eat more lean protein. Avoid fatty proteins (pork with lots of fat) and stick to healthier sources of protein (fish and chicken)

Exercise regularly. Add a little bit of exercise every day. Try to do some basic stretching and jogging after you wake up as a start.

I guarantee that these steps will boost your metabolism because I do these things myself. Go ahead and try them out!

Don't ever forget the 3 steps. The hardest thing about these steps in boosting metabolism is forgetting about these 3 steps and going back to your old habits.

    Great material Matt. It deserves a little angel dust. I appreciated your encouraging building muscle which improves the Fat-to-Lean ratio. This is an important way to keep us healthier and younger too. All three methods are right on!
    One way of checking to see if you are improving your metabolism is by checking your temperature. As your metabolism improves, so will your body temp.

    Good post.

    Although I would have to say that fiber (which is a carb) is more effective at speeding up metabolism than protein.

    Too much protein in a single meal can spike insulin, which defeats the purpose of limiting carbs.

    I'm not saying that meals should be composed of around 90% protein. I just notice that most people do put a lot of carbs in their meals (70% perhaps) that they tend to forget the importance of protein, hence the advice :) But, thanks for your tip!

    I do think that drinking more water, and adding more protein is irrelevant to age! Older people might find it harder to build muscle since we lose muscle as we age. However, a light jog or walk daily for 30 minutes can give you a good start in exercising and making your life healthier and fitter! :)
