However, together with the dog come the responsibilities. You have to take care of him, play with him and, most importantly, feed him right.
This article present three basic rules you need to follow when feeding your dog! So pay attention!
1. Fresh Water
While your dog can resist up to two or three weeks without food, it will only take him a few days to die without water. Dogs use water just like humans do: for digestion, temperature regulation and absorption of nutrients. Your dog's size, his diet and his physical activities determine the amount of water he needs. For instance, dry dog food contains less water than canned food, meaning your dog will be thirstier if you feed him only kibble.Anyway, just try to provide your dog with a constant supply of fresh water!
2. Schedule his Meals
I would go with three meals a day but if you don't have enough time you can skip the midday meal and have just two: one in the morning and one in the evening. Most dogs are perfectly fine with two meals a day. When it comes to puppies, things are a little bit more complicated! They require around 4 meals because of their growing needs. In time, after they reach 6 months you can settle for two or even two meals.
3. Don't Overfeed
I bet you don't want to have a fat dog! So, pay attention to his daily requirements and feed him portions. Just as much as he needs. You know that dogs are unable to stop so you have to take that into account before filling his bowl. Avoid giving him too many treats as he can end up having behavioral problems as well. If possible, try to prepare his treats at home or to replace them with small pieces of fruits, carrots, low-fat cheese. Make sure that you offer him the treats only when he deserves them, but this, of course, is part of a good training. How To Feed your Dog or Puppy!
