Liz Lemon is the savior of the show, putting out fires all over the set from TGS' crazy star Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan), the antics of her neurotic boss Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), and her self-consciouss best friend, TGS cast member Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski). This is not to say that Lemon does not have battles of her own to fight: mostly, herself.

30 Rock began as a series on October 11, 2006 on NBC. Ratings for the show started with a solid 8.13 million viewers, but declined steadily in ratings down to 4.61 million viewers by the fourth episode. By late November and December, however, 30 Rock was back up to over 6 million viewers per episode and NBC decided to commit to a full season of the show.

Despite shaky ratings, 30 Rock went on to receive an Emmy for Best Comedy series in 2007 while Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin were nominated for their acting. The show also received Emmy nominations for its casting, directing, writing, sound mixing guest appearance and theme music. The show was picked up for a second season by NBC on April 4, 2007.

30 Rock uses a single-camera set-up method and does not use laugh tracks, much like similar sitcoms Scrubs and The Office. A delightful score highlights hilarious moments in place of the laugh track.

Jack sees an opportunity for budget cuts when Josh's contract is up, forcing Liz to go out of her way to motivate Josh into staying with 'TGS' and not moving on to a rival show. Meanwhile, Kenneth earns a coveted spot in Tracy's entourage and Jenna gets in trouble over a misquote in a popular magazine.

Liz struggles to maintain her long-distance relationship with Floyd and must also use Kenneth's help in finding a missing Tracy. Meanwhile, Jack's marriage situation with Phoebe causes his mother to stop by.

*Episode 1.11: The Head and the Hair aired 1/18/07 Rating: 9.2
Liz and Jenna work on their dating game when they're beguiled by two very different MSNBC staffers - a brainy geek and a brawny hunk, but cerebral Liz finds it strange that she's more interested in the attractive one. Meanwhile, Kenneth and Jack switch roles.

*Episode 1.12: Black Tie aired 2/1/07 Rating: 9.2
Liz wonders if she's actually on a date with Jack as she accompanies him to a birthday celebration for a foreign prince. While at the ball, Liz sees a different side to Jack as he unexpectedly runs in to his ex-wife. Back at 30 Rock, Tracy tempts Pete with a booze- and babe-filled party in the office, while Kenneth tries to keep Pete on the straight and narrow.

Jack and Kenneth work together when Jack discovers that another NBC executive is after his job. Meanwhile, Pete and Liz adjust to life as roommates and Tracy receives paternity papers.
