St. Simons is very convenient from most any location on the East Coast

Only an easy hours drive on I-95 from Jacksonville or Savannah, St. Simons Island is the perfect little island community. It is just touristy enough that you'll feel like you are on vacation all of the time, yet it is very much a community of friends and neighbors who live on and enjoy St. Simons Island year round.

Weather in Saint Simons Island, GA

The weather is almost always mild here in coastal Georgia. As an added bonus, weather on St. Simons Island is even milder. Not as cold as the mainland of Brunswick, not as hot, either. We enjoy those nice ocean breezes all year long. So, if you like growing tropical plants you'll find a "Florida" climate right here on our little island.

Can you guess why the area around
St. Simons Island is called
The Golden Isles?

Answer...

Golden Isles BagpiperTo answer the question, the area around St. Simons Island is known as the Golden Isles because of the beautiful marsh grasses that are "golden" for most of the year. They look especially beautiful on a sunny day.

My wife and I went there this last summer with my inlaws. It was a pretty island and the lighthouse was nice to visit. It was lacking in beach front though. Definitely a nice place to go if you like a laid back atmosphere.

No, I've never been to St. Simons Island, but I think it would be a great place to visit and even live. You did a good job in portraying it as a place to live.

My husband and I are thinking about moving to the Golden Isles area. We have a 3 1/2 year old son. Is it a good area to raise a family?

If you enjoy small town life, the Golden Isles is a very nice place to raise a family. There aren't as many opportunities as in a city - Jacksonville and Savannah are an hour away - but there are plenty of sports activities, skate board parks, pools, kayaking, dance studios, a nice Y, swim teams, etc. Plus, of course, the beaches.
