Tannehill State Park is the major tourist attraction in McCalla.
McAdory School serves the area for grades 6 through 12. McAdory Elementary serves the area for grades 1 - 5.
McCalla, until recently, was a rural community with many small family farms. Lately, it has become a very desirable place to live for those who commute to work in Shelby County, Vance (site of a Mercedes plant) and other nearby cities. Many new subdivisions have been built on land that was once pasture.
Rock Mountain Lakes and Coleman Lakes are two older subdivisions that continue to attract home buyers.
Two new shopping centers serve the area: Colonial Promenade Tannehill and the Shoppes at Letson Farms. Both shopping centers are located on I-459, near McAdory High School.
