Freestyle tips and info on how to land a 360 on skis
I've had to learn on my own, and have actually gotten pretty good at it now.
So I guess it's time to share what I've learned.
Lets get you spinning over a kicker already !
So here it goes.
I built this lens for all you skiers that are dreaming of mustering the courage to try a 360 on skis. You'll find information and tips as well as a couple of nice videos and photos to make you dream ;)
I'm in love with skiing, and I think freestyle skiing, and spining is one of the major reasons why.
The sensation of flying over a kicker while turning is absolutely incredible. And totally addictive ;)
3 things you should know about Freestyle skiing tricks
1. It's a lot easier than you think2. The feeling is even better than what you imagine
3. You'll love youself for having had the courage to try, and most of all for sticking to it.
And last but not least:
"Always remember. If you don't try it this year, you'll be an year older when you do"
Step by step to a 360
Print this, and do EXACTLY what is written - PRACTISE makes perfect

Most people reading this probably have twin tip skis. Twin tips are not there so that you can bail out of a 360 half way...
This mindset will not help you learn a 360.
When you decide to try a 360 you need to focus on a full rotation. Pick a spot in front of the jump and don't stop looking until you are back around to that same point.
Approach the jump, don't be afraid of speed. You need to clear the jump and give yourself enough time to complete the rotation.
Pop evenly off the jump and set your rotation by popping and turning your shoulders and head in the direction of the spin, the rest of your body will follow.
KEEP LOOKING for the spot downhill you picked. Another technique used to even out your landing is to look for a spot 3/4 of the way around and lock eyes on it, this will allow you to even out your body as your rotation finishes and slow your rotation for the landing.
Before you try this practice getting the full rotation down.
As you complete your rotation extend your arms and get ready to absorb the landing.
Some people spin very straight legged to begin with, it is important to set up for landing so you don't hurt your knees.
Stomp it and know that once you have done one you can do another.
What happens when you try a 360 ?
We all miss for different reasons. Tell me why you miss, and I'll try to answer

More spins or more grabs?
Should you work on style? Or on the magnitude?
I haven't managed to answer this question yet.
Here is the problem: I don't feel I have enough time on the slopes to be able to dedicate an entire day just to work on a grab, or a tweak.
I need the adrenaline, and the gratification of landing nice big and slow spins.
What do you think?
Is it more important to work on style and "details" or to keep going bigger ?
Is it better to spin more, or work on style and grabs?

Once you've mastered the 360, the 540 is really close by, and it keeps going on...
A great 360 on skis needs a nice grab to really be beautiful. And the sensation is even better

- Hey, first of all, congratulations on trying it out at all my friend!
I have a couple of tips that will help you land your first 360. Before I give them to you though, would you happen to have photos or videos (even bad quality) of you trying a 360 ? (tdemontebello at gmail dot com)
That would help me give you more specific feedback.
Cheers,
Tristan

- Hello Adriana,
I'd have to recommend you to a mental institution if you weren't scared out of you mind !
The idea is to find a way to tame that fear (or trick it) just long enough to give it a try.
I know it helped a lot to try 180s on tiny bumps before actually going for a 360.
I promise it is very easy (you can try it as slowly as you want) and the feeling is great !
Baby steps !

Extra tips from the web
I've gathered a couple of trick tips from experts. It's always good to have second advice

Here are a couple of great tips from experts :
"I'm gonna have to disagree with more speed is better. Also you shouldn't need to wind up very much for a 360. It's only one rotation, more than one and yes you will need to wind up a bit.
The easiest way to learn how to spin a 3 is to find a small bump you can get a few inches of air off of.
Hit it going across the hill if possible, this way if you yard sale you wont slide too far down the hill. As you come to the top of the bump, plant the pole in the hand of the direction you want to spin, and do a jump turn while popping straight up with your legs. You'll need to adjust your speed after you get the feel for the bump, but keep looking over your shoulder in the direction you are spinning.
If you stop looking you will stop spinning.
As you get about 3/4 around spot your landing and focus on that. once you get the spin down with the pole plant, work on removing the pole plant.
You don't have to start big, you'll be a more rounded skier if you start small and then go bigger. Hope this helps."

Visualise your jumps before you try :
" A huge part of skiing, going huge in particular, is visualization.
The night before you hit that jump, play it successfully over and over and over and over and over in your head until you can see yourself landing it perfectly. Picture the exact jump, the exact clothes you'll be wearing, the exact trick, all the way down until you stomp the landing.
Once you can do that, you got the visualization part down. If you're not too good at visualizing, then imagine what it will sound like - your friends yelling out loud after you stomp it - whatever suits you bro.
Then, the day before you hit it, listen to a really intense song , something that will get you pumped. As you're hitting the jump, replay that perfect landing once more on your way - and go into that trick with only one thought: "I'm going to stomp this trick and it's gonna look sick."
Then, after you actually hit it, and nail the trick perfectly, come back to your computer and give me a best answer = )
good luck bro"
