366 Free Internet Marketing Tips AND Secrets

Welcome! My name is Allen Jesson and I have been online for over 10 years. In that time, I have attracted tens of millions of visitors to my web-sites. In this series, I am going to show you how to do that. So, over the next 366 days I will be sharing with you 366 Internet Marketing Tips, Secrets and Strategies.

So, without further ado, here's day 1:

TIP 1 - Search Engine Optimisation = How To Get To Google #1

How did I get to become "the most popular poet on the Internet?" It's true! Just key that phrase into Google and there I am, in spots number 1 AND 2. How did I do that? Let me show you...

Firstly, you need to know that a major part of Google's ranking algorithm is based on linking. In simple terms, to rank well for ANY keyword, you need to create quality and original content, based around the keyword and then have a number of links pointing to that page with that keyword embedded in the hyperlink.

How many links? Well, the more competitive term, the more links you will need. Even though I have been online for 10 years and my poetry site (www.agiftofpoetry.com) has been visited by tens of millions of people in that time, I can't really claim to be "the most popular poet on the Internet". It is just that keyword phrase is not very competitive (at all) so it only took a few links to achieve the end result (i.e. positions 1 2). But the same principle applies for ANY keyword. That is why I am number 1 in the world for 'anniversary poem' for example. Create quality, original content, based on your target keyword (using the keyword as the title of your page helps too). Then get quality links pointing at your site with your targetted keyword (if obtaining a lot of links, it is good to vary the hyperlinked keyword information). Now, you will read a lot of 'hype' about Search Engine Optimization, but just remember this simple formula and you will not go too far wrong:

Create Keyword Focused Unique Content Links With The Keyword, or a variation of the keyword, hyperlinked to that page.

It's as simple as that. Now, depending on the term, the number of links necessary might be enormous. For example, if I type "poetry" into Google and then type "link:www.oneofthedomainsinthetop4.com" I can very quickly see how many links that site has pointing to it (well, at least the ones that Google recognize and they are the important ones). Now, all those links will not have the same keyword but it will give you a good idea of the work involved to get to position 1. There are some online tools you can use and we'll be exploring those in future editions so in the meantime, I offer one final piece of advice. To use this method, start with a "long tail" keyword i.e. one with four or five words in the phrase. So, here's exactly what to do:

1. Create a Squidoo Page based on your long tail keyword.
2. Create a few links and point them to that page, using the keyword.
3. Create a page on your web-site based on the keyword and link to it from the home page, using the keyword. Make sure the page is at least 50% different from your Squidoo page.
4. Link to your new page from the Squidoo page.

That should be enough. Depending on the keyword, you should get results within 2 to 3 weeks. If you don't, then create two articles, based on your two pages (again, make sure that they are different) and then submit them to ezine articles, again, with the author resource box pointing at both your squidoo page AND the page on your web-site.

There you have it, pretty much guarenteed to work for any long tail keyword.
