Livingston, TX (PRWEB) July 9, 2008 - A veteran formerly from Bryan-College Station, Tom Rowan has designed a very chic pink walking staff to be used by Breast Cancer Awareness 3-Day Walkers. Rowan hopes to raise enough funds selling the personalized pink walking staffs to fund at least one walking scholarships for each of the fourteen remaining scheduled Three Day Walks for the Cure.

Rowan got the idea to create a special walking staff for Walk for the Cure participants while he was carving a custom walking stave for a hiker of the Appalachian Trail. He thought that the Walk for the Cure participants could use the tool both to boost their endurance and as a personalized keepsake memento of their walk. They are fully customizable with the name of the hiker and the date of the walk or a memorial.

The first pink walking staff will be auctioned on eBay beginning July 12, 2008 with a reserve price of $1,000. Rowan hopes to earn enough money from the auction to fund at least one participant's scholarship in the Chicago 3-Day walk in August. He will continue running auctions of the walking staffs approximately one month in advance of each of the Three Day Walks.

Each hiking staff to be auctioned will be personalized with either the name of the purchaser or a memorial. In addition to being personalized, each staff will also be numbered and signed by the artist. Charitable donations are down by over 40% across the country, and Rowan thinks it would be great to be able help someone who wants to participate but maybe hasn't been able to raise all the funds. He hopes to generate a lot of interest in these auctions because each participant has to raise $2,200 just to be able to participate in a Three Day Walk.

In addition to personalization, each walking stave comes equipped with an extra large pink handi-scarf and a pink whistle and a leather hand grip placed in the user's comfort zone.
