Motif Description

My most successful pattern ever remains to be my 3D Scalloped Flower. In my efforts to top that record, I created this 3d flower motif. This pattern has two variations for the stamens. (This photo shows the Swirled Stamen.) Even though the pattern calls for plarn (plastic bag yarn), you can still use any other yarn you desire.

What You Need

Materials
two colors of plarn* or any other yarn you prefer

Crochet Hook
size appropriate for the plarn* or yarn you are using

Others:
Tapestry needle

*Plarn - yarn derived from plastic bags. Click here to learn the methods of making plarn. and conditioning it for crochet.

Abbreviations

ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet
dtr = double treble crochet
sp = space

Crochet Instructions

Choose between these two stamens

Open Stamen
Ch 5, sl st to from ring.
(Ch 6, sl st into ring, ch 1, sc in ring, sl st in ring) 5x.
Weave in ends.

Swirled Stamen
Ch 5, sl st to form ring.
Ch 6, 5 sc starting with the 2nd ch from hook. Insert hook in the first sc made and into ring, the pull yarn through. Ch 1, sc in ring, sl st in ring) 5x.
Weave in loose ends.

Now attach the petals

Attach plarn in sc of stamen as shown in picture.
(This photo shows an Open Stamen.)
(Ch 2, sl st in next sc of stamen) 5x.
The picture shows how it should look.
Ch 1. (In ch-2 sp, work 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, 1hdc, and 1 sc. TURN. Ch 2, 1 dc in sc of previous row, 1 dc and 1 tr in hdc, 1 tr and 1 dtr in dc, 2 dtr in tr, 1 dtr and 1 tr in dc, 1 tr and 1 dc in hdc, and 1 dc and 1 hdc in sc. Sl st to the nearest sc in stamen. TURN. 14 sl st across petal, sl st to the nearest sc in stamen.) 5x.
Weave in ends.
