3D Renaissance Butterfly

Motif Description

Ever since I took designing patterns seriously, my sister had been bugging me to make a butterfly pattern. However, my creative juices were not flowing in that direction until last night. (Something really bad happened to my sister and she relates to the butterfly as her symbol of recovery.) Like everything else in my arsenal of crochet patterns, this one is made from plarn*. I already made a hair clip and a key chain with this one. What are you gonna make?

Design Notes

(The photo in the flower above is the 3D Crochet Flower with Stamens.)
This pattern has undergone a lot of renovations just to come up with the cutest possible design. Work the motif in a tight tension to make it more 3-dimensional. That's why the head of the hair clip above is not the same as the one in the crochet instructions because I don't think its cute. ",)

Crochet Instructions

Ch 5, sl st to form ring.
(Ch 6, sl st to ring) 2x.
(Ch 5 sl st to ring) 4x. TURN.
(Into ch-5 sp, work 1 sc, 1 dc, 1hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dtr, 1 tr, 1dc, 1 hdc, and 1 sc. Sl st into ring)4x.
Weave in loose ends.
