Create 3D Art... Free!

Have you ever wanted to try out 3D/CG art, but were put off by the high prices of most 3D software?  Well, if you know where to look, you can do a lot for free!  This article will show you how.

How to do 3D, for Free!

Check out these sites to get started in CG art.

Now and then, I write about how to get started in 3D art for free. I post basically the same text, with a few additions for anything new or that has changed.

Here is my periodic How To Get Started in 3D, for FREE post, now with a cool deal I just found at DAZ|3D, and more.

When I started doing CG art in 2002, there were a few 3D programs out there, but they weren't very user friendly to the newcomer. So, I bought Poser for a couple hundred dollars, and went from there.

Times have changed.

For those of you who want to try out CG art, here's how.

Head over to DAZ3D, get a free account, and download their versatile art program, DAZ|Studio. It's comparable to Poser, but is totally free. All they ask is that you tell two friends about it.

DAZ|Studio comes with a lot of content, but if you want more, DAZ3D features a lot of freebies on their site, including some of the top male and female human models.

The offer about one great freebie a week, usually a product that later jumps to $10 or $20. Checking there regularly is a great way to add content to your 3D library without paying a lot. You'll probably find items you want to purchase there, too, and it's all worth it.

After you've done gotten your free DAZ software and content, you may want to find more freebies. Where can you go?

You can download more content at Renderosity and Runtime DNA.

Whatever kind of 3D art you're interested in exploring, be it fantasy and science-fiction, modern, or some other genre, DAZ|Studio will give you a great start.
