Present Tips for Three Year Old Kids

When you buy a present for kid - either for birthday, Christmas, Easter or some other occasion - do you consider what is appropriate for child at certain age and what he/she will like but also learn something from using it?

Here you'll find some books and toys that I have bought for three year old girls and boys and for which their parents said they are both educational and fun for their kids. And time consuming (very important for parents and caretakers:-)!

Also take time to read part on milestones - it will give you some more ideas what could be great for kids at this age!

NNCC Developmental Milestones
Have you ever wondered how your child is growing and developing compared to other children of the same age? How do you know if your child is "on the right track"?
Your child is going through many physical and mental changes. Although no two children grow at the same rate, experts agree there are "normal" signs of development. This brochure will provide you with a checklist of important milestones in your child's development during the fourth year of life.
PBS Parents - Child developement
A child's development is unique and complex. Although children develop through a generally predictable sequence of steps and milestones, they may not proceed through these steps in the same way or at the same time. A child's development is greatly influenced by factors in his or her environment and the experiences he or she has.

Parenting tips

What parents can do?

# Place books on sturdy, low shelves or in plastic storage bins. Babies and toddlers are more likely to explore books if they can get them easily.

# Keep your older baby or toddler's writing materials in one place. You can decorate a cardboard box or buy an inexpensive plastic container for his writing materials. This way, he will have easy access to them when he wants to write, and he knows that they are special things.

# Establish a daily read-aloud routine. You can do this by reading aloud to your baby or toddler at the same time and in the same place each day. Remember that children this young cannot focus for long periods of time, however, and will be more interested in the pictures than in the story.

# Recite nursery rhymes and sing songs to your baby. Even though your baby will not understand them, hearing these will help her learn the patterns and rhythms of language.

# Talk together about things that interest your child. Talk about things you do, see, and hear as you go about your day. Talking to your child often helps her learn vocabulary and grammar.

Unlike many toy-focused books, Toy Tips does a great job in reminding readers that toys can be both educational and fun. It seems obvious, but sometimes we get caught up in the educational aspects of a toy and forget that a child can learn through play even if letters and numbers aren't prominent on a product. Toy Tips does a marvelous job of dissecting the advantages of particular types of toys and pointing out the less-obvious skill sets that are achieved through their use. A toy that engages a child's imagination encourages creativity, and exercising creativity is important. So a role play or plush toy can in fact be educational. Toy Tips charts out which kinds of products are safest and best suited for kids of different ages and developmental stages.

Toys: Making Art

Toys for hours of creative fun!

First conscious creation of form occurs around age three and provides a tangible record of the child's thinking process. The first representational attempt is a person, usually with circle for head and two vertical lines for legs. Later other forms develop, clearly recognizable and often quite complex. Children continually search for new concepts so symbols constantly change.

* Look for sturdy, well-made toys
* Remember that toys for older children may not be safe for younger children
* Children under three years of age tend to put things in their mouths - small toys, small balls or small loose toy parts are choking hazards for these children
