Timothy Ferriss Timeline - Timothy Ferriss Life

Timothy FerrissTimothy Ferriss is an American author, entrepreneur, and public speaker. In 2007, he published The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich, which was a New York Times and USA Today bestseller. In 2010, he followed up with The 4-Hour Body. Timothy Ferriss' third book, The 4-Hour Chef, was announced in 2011.

Timothy Ferriss is known for his application of both the Pareto principle and Parkinson's Law to business and personal life.

He has also taken the position that technology such as email, instant messaging and internet-enabled PDAs complicate life rather than simplify it. His teachings fit under the umbrella of what he calls "lifestyle design", in which he promotes "mini-retirements" as an alternative to the "deferred-life" career path where one would work a 9-to-5 job until retirement in one's 60s. This involves breaking what he calls "outdated assumptions" and finding ways to be more effective so that work takes up less of people's time.

Reviews of The 4 Hour Work Week

What critics say about Tomothy Ferris and his book

"Stunning and amazing. From mini-retirements to outsourcing your life, it's all here. Whether you're a wage slave or a Fortune 500 CEO, this book will change your life!"
- Phil Town #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of Rule #1

"Thanks to Tim Ferriss, I have more time in my life to travel, spend time with family and write book blurbs. This is a dazzling and highly useful work."
- A.J. Jacobs Editor-at-Large, Esquire Magazine, Author of The Know-It-All

"The 4-Hour Workweek is an absolute necessity for those adventurous souls who want to live life to its fullest. Buy it and read it before you sacrifice any more!"
- John Lusk Group Product Manager, Microsoft World Headquarters

.... and a 'common reader' says on the Amazon pages:

I just completed the 4 hour work week by Timothy Ferris not because as a senior manager I believe I could actually achieve a 4 hour work week, rather it was after reading Tim's blog that I became intrigued with many of his ideas and having a 14 hour flight to the US ahead of me I figured this would pass the time quickly. I am pleased say that I was impressed and the flight did go quickly. Being a bit of a self help junkie I have read many books in the genre because I recognize that there is always a chance to have a sliver of a take away that can be applied into my daily life with an immediate impact. For me it was his advice on email and interruptions, which I tweaked slightly to fit my work environment, gibing me an additional two hours of productivity per day!

Timothy Ferris is a 29 year old who through exploitation of flaws in the system became a Tango champion and a Chinese Kickboxing champion. If you take a serious look at how he accomplished both it can only be defined as "going ugly"; which isn't necessarily bad because it worked. I really enjoyed this book and if you effectively applied any one of the following approaches he espouses in your daily life you will recoup the cost of the book a thousand times over:

- Time manage that focuses only on high value tasks
- Avoiding busy work for the sake of working
- Mini sabbaticals rather than the standard two week vacation
- Setting up a self operating business
- Outsourcing your life

There are plenty of examples of Tim's advice being applied for real success and if you can apply them in whole to your life there is an amazing new world that will open up to you. Most of his techniques have little downside risk to your current job and one of the more salient pieces of advice is that you can always get another one.

Get the book, read it, apply it, and then buy copies for your friends.

Can You Really Earn a Living in only 4 Hours per Day?

Four hours seems to be an extremely short time to gain a living. I believe that this is the value of an exceptional guy who has an extremely smart system. But I also believe that by getting organized and doing the right things you can reduce your working hours, and a velue of i.e. 16 hours, which would mean two full days work every week, must be possible.

Is it possible to earn a living, working only 4 hours every week?

He is a great writer. I recently brought his book The 4 Hour Body and it's brilliand. He's a funny guy.

aquarian_insight says:

Absolutely, why not? This is a very clear book.

quantummike says:

you can do anything you set your mind to

No way, this is a pipedream and will not work!

Tolovaj says:

No, if you properly define what work really is. Even if you have millions, you need time to talk with accountants, lawyers, etc., because without any activity everything you have will disappear quickly.

What to do with the other 36 hours every week

Once you are done with working for your 4 hours, you might have a problem what to do with the rest of the time? :-)

How do you organize your work week

How many hours are you working? What good systems are you using to reduce your working hours?

If i count everything, including cooking, I work 16 hours a day. If i count only directly paid projects, I work about 10 hours a week.

As I suffer from ME, my health forces me to be more organised about the hours I work. I've recently left my job, and am now working from home when it suits me.

I bet you would double your sales if you just make the book cover image a link to the audio-book page. It took me 5 minutes of skimming until I found the link. It may sound weird to you, but just try it and see... (you can also add a "click here to get it" link. It will increase your sales even more!)

I just finished reading this book, and am already incorporating a few of Timothy's ideas into my present routine. It's worth reading (or listening to) even if you're a work-a-holic who enjoys slaving away. I'm featuring this lens on my Squid Angel Diary this week.
