4 The Heart From The Heart

I am the extremely fortunate father of 2 healthy children, and can't even imagine what life would be like if either of them were to become sick to the point of where it was beyond my power as a loving parent to help with their pain and suffering.

Many families are not as lucky as myself and my wife as thousands of children suffer from CHD each year.

Fortunately there are people such as Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian who has dedicated his life to fund raising and research.  Thanks to him and the many caring people who have donated their time and/or money, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

This Lens is dedicated to the many children around the world who face the daily challenges of living with a Life Threatening Heart Birth defect, and the many things that you can do to help heal a childs broken heart.

The three most important things you can do right now to ease the suffering of a child is:

(1) send this page to everyone you know.

(2) Visit Dr. Mani's site for more information http://www.chdinfo.com

(3) Little drops make an ocean. Your small contributions will help give a child a chance to live a happy healthy life. Donate just $5 or $10 towards the cost of treating a child with congenital heart defects.

What Is CHD ?

Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) is a lethal constellation of birth defects of the heart that affect millions of newborn infants and children worldwide; a killer that claims thousands of lives every year. Eight of every 1000 children born alive (0.8%) will have some form of congenital heart defect.

Congenital Heart Defects can cause one or more portions of the heart to develop abnormally. Absent, narrow or leaky heart valves and blood vessels, holes in the walls between chambers, transposed arteries and under-development or total absence of one or more components are all possible.

CHD affects not only patients, but entire families. Along the winding, tortuous road ahead, with major surgery and continuing medical care looming, most families need a helping hand, a friendly shoulder to cry on and peers they can count on for support and encouragement in difficult times.
