401K Good or Bad?

401 K Advantages or disadvantages

Most People have a 401K or some kind of plan where they are deferring paying their taxes. Are they really that good? The Advantages is that most are deducted from your paycheck before you get paid causing people to save money for the future. 401K's are suppose to be a great way to accumulate a lot of money, so when you retire, you will be making less money and it will supplement your income. But has everything been thought out about them. Let's pretend in 1979 I was making $12,000 dollars a year. 25 Years later, I was making $80,000. I retire on 75% of my pay. Now in Retirement I am making $60,000 a year. Does it make since to defer the taxes from 1979 when I was only making $12,000 a year. Now I am retired and I am making more. I am making less than when I retired but I am making more than I did 25 years ago because salaries keep going up. It is twice as bad for a married couple because you have 2 incomes which have gone up. Now you are paying more money for taxes because you are making more money. Married couple with the same income in 1979 is making $24,000 a year. 25 years later, they are making $160,000 a year. When they retire they are making $120,000 a year. Does it make since to defer the taxes from 1979 to the year 2004? You are making much less money in 1979 and it makes since to pay the taxes then, not in 2004 when you are making more money. If your salaries never increase, you should be OK. Most Peoples salaries increase due to inflation.

401K

The Point I am trying to make is that there maybe better places for you to put your money than a 401K. You should research all the possibilities and see if it is right for you. Do not just rely on the Representative of the 401K Company to give you all the information. People will withhold the truth to make a living or to make more money. The Automatic Millionaire homeowner is a good book to read about investing in Real Estate. Robert Kiyosaki the author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad advises his clients to look at over 100 properties before you purchase one house. This process will insure that you get the best deal for your money.

In a age were no one is saving anything at least some do have a 401k & some employers give a 50% match which is nice.

I moved mine from 401k to IRA and I move it to the best mutal fund sectors that agree with.
Your lens is very good & food for thought for many!
    Again a 5 stars lens!

401K

The Biggest mistake people make is putting all their money in one basket. Nothing is guaranteed in life. Most Americans are putting huge sums of money into their 401K's and they are relying strictly on the stock market to retire on. Does this make since? If your money is in a 401k usually when the market goes down, you lose a lot of money. If you have it in an normal investment account. You can pull your money in and out as the market goes up and down.

Everyone has an opinion on what you should do. In General, you have to go against the flow of what the majority are doing because the majority always gets lead astray. If you are going to take advise from someone, make sure they are producing the result that you want to accomplish or you could just end up spinning your wheels and going nowhere.
