Adeptes Astartes - Angels of Death - Space Marines
In the 41st Millenium, the universe is alive with war. Dozens of forces vie for thousands of planets and the star systems containing them. Some bare old grudges while others are looking to eke out a living or unite the universe.
Warhammer 40K takes this struggle and plays it out in untold tabletop battles. One of the mighty forces in play are the Adeptes Astartes, the hope of the far-flung human Imperium -
The Space Marines
These stalwart, tireless behemoths come from the geneseed of their primarchs, the bred sons of the Emperor himself, and although all of them are now long gone (although some are rumored lost or to return miraculously), their chapters remain, spreading the reach of the Imperium to every corner of the universe.
There are many forces to command and collect in the Warhammer 40K universe, but the Space Marines will always be my favorites. Their backstories and almost infinite design potential means that you can play a storied chapter with a seemingly endless history, or create your own chapter and develop your own roll of honor.
Although some Space Marine chapters have their own codices with special rules, most chapters adhere to the Codex Astartes, represented in game terms by the Space Marine Codex, which outfits standard "vanilla" armies and determines how many of what weapons, units, characters and gear you can purchase with which to play the game.
Warhammer 40K is a great hobby not just for playing a tabletop game, but also for collecting, painting, modifying and showcasing armies. Due to the wide array of chapters available, and the various gear loadouts available in the codex, you can create your own flavor of existing chapters, give life to chapters with little to no fluff (backstories) or create your own chapters. There's no limit to what a creative and patient player can create from the existing rules.
I've played other forces, but I am drawn back to the Space Marines for all of this and more. I'll try to shed some light on my SM strategy and tactics, discuss units, help with conversions and cool products both from Games Workshop and elsewhere.
Welcome, Brothers (and Sisters)!
Share your imperial forces, or if you must, talk some smack about your non-Imperial bands whether you're filthy xenos, traitor or heretic, everyone is welcome here. Check out my growing list of Space Marine lenses, as well as fluff resources, forums and more.

Looking For Sets or Bitz?
If you're looking for sets, parts, sprues or bitz, you can go right to the source at Games Workshop, or any of a variety of companies that make licensed products for 40K, or plenty of companies that just sell parts and bitz to complete your conversions.
Note: I always try to point gamers to the relevant sets on Amazon. You can usually find 40K boxes at a discount, but not bitz.
Sets
Games Workshop
Forge World
Sprues/Bitz
The Bitz Barn
The Warstore
Bitz Box
Let the Dice Decide
Honorable Mention - Awesome Bitz
Chapterhouse Studios makes some unique bitz for a variety of chapters and armies.

Game Stores in Arizona (Phoenix Metro Area)
That being said, nothing beats your local gaming store for discounts on units, and more importantly, a place to paint, chat and play.
In the Phoenix area, I recommend:
Game Depot - Tempe
Empire Games - Mesa
They're supposed to be opening a new Games Workshop Store in Scottsdale, but it is behind schedule. There used to be one at Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe, so here's to it doing better up there.
To those who used to hang out at Arizona Gamer back in the day, what's your current hang out?

- Everyone hates works in progress, but it is. I started with Ultramarines and will post some pics of them when I can.
My current project is a 2000 point force of Aurora Chapter for a tank-based lots-o'-armor force. Pictures pending.
I'm also working on Marauders (White Scars successor), Exorcists (to pal around with my buddy's Grey Knights), Mortifactors (to oppose my buddy's Grey Knights) and other more obscure chapters that I find interesting.

- I've not done this in a long time, but I used to play the Dark Angel's. An interesting lens - could do with more pictures though! Do you have a favourite faction?
