42 is great number for marathon runners (42 kilometers and some change), it is also great number to get into mid-life crisis. When I turned 42 )yes, I am that old too), nothing spectacular happened, but maybe it happened, I just didn't notice...
Great idea for a lens, if you decide to expand it, send me a note, I'll be glad to revisit it:)

42 minutes is how long it would take to get to the other side of the earth if you fell due to gravity through a tunnel through the core.

So I started watching the videos on www.Ted.com last night. I am watching four each night and calculated that it will be February 11th when I have seen all of the videos (f course they keep adding them...so it will probably take me longer)...but the point here is that it brought me to this site...and now I know that an object falling through the planet would take 42 minutes...and my life is fuller for knowing that...although I am not sure why.

Lewis Carroll was fascinated by the number 42. The number comes up in most of his works including Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland and his last novel, Silvie and Bruno Concluded, in which he describes a train that uses gravity as its energy source. The train runs through a perfectly straight tunnel from one town to another. Since the middle of the tunnel is necessarily nearer the earth's center than its ends, the train runs downhill to the center, gathering enough momentum to carry it up the other half of the tunnel. Such a train would make the trip in exactly the same time it would take an object to fall to the center of the earth--a little more than 42 minutes. This time is constant regardless of the tunnel's length.

the number 42 is significant in my life in many ways but I was not aware of it's significance worldwide. This is how I became aware of it: Look at these:
David Beckham, Dennis Bergkamp, Dimitar Berbatov, David Bentley, Darren Bent, David Bailey,Derren Brown, Dogs Bollocks, Deutche Bank- what do you notice..... all DB, the 4th letter and the 2nd letter of the alphabet.
    This is a special number.

What about the top events of 1942? :) Very unique and funny lens! I did my part to boost the lens rank - ***** for you. Check out Organize YHB sometime. Cheers!

Okay - I'll do my part to help you get to 42 comments. I can't help but love this lens - even though I disagree and think that "Mostly Harmless" is indeed worth reading. How can you end the trilogy without reading the fifth book? :)

You'll have to have a big squidoo celebration when you hit 42 comments, ey?

    Love the lens!

Perhaps you should also discuss the meaning of the number 42 which, in Numerology, delineates to the number 6, a powerful number.

Thanks for catching the clip was gone. A new clip is posted and balance is restored to the UNIVERSE! (nope, I am not being grandious at all. NOT I said!)

I LOVE this lens. I feel so awakened and aware and 42-ish now. As of today you are featured on my Procrastination lens; 42 is worth wasting time on!

Sidenote: (Sadly, the video you posted is "No longer available".)

Congrats on 3rd place in The People's Choice Awards, for January 2007! At or around age 42 is the "Uranus Opposition". The planet of upheaval is 180 deg. from where it was when you were born. Instant mid-life crisis!

As a member of Club 42 (those who are currently 42) I thought I should post to say I think it's very cool that you're offering this lens as a public service. So many people freak out when that 40th birthday approaches. Now they will know that they have 42 to look forward to.

I just turned 42, and my family keeps asking when I will share all my newfound knowledge of the universe. Thanks for creating this interesting lens! I'll be sure to add it to my lensroll.

Great lens - I needed the laugh. Found it hard to believe it would actually be "the" answer. In light of the wonderful content you dug up for this, you should petition Jelly Belly to retire 7 of their flavors.

    Great, great collection; so fun.

And an addition, courtesy of my good friend, David: The address of The X Files' Agent Fox Mulder was 2630 Hegal Place, Apartment No. 42,Alexandria,Virginia 23242. The 42s were an apparent homage to The Hitchhikers' Guide.

Very creative man. You deserve 42 stars for this one but I can only give 5. And I thought of making this blurb 42 letters but that was not enough.
