I bought LG 42SL90 about a week ago. I like its look and the borderless design concept. This is my second LED TV. The first one is 46" Samsung LED TV 7-series, which I am very happy with. I bought this 42" LG instead of the Samsung 40" LED TV because LG is cheaper and it comes with 2" larger screen. It can also play movies (.avi and DIVX) straight from USB drive. The picture quality is great which is at par with Samsung in my opinion.

The only thing missing from this TV is that it doesn't play .MP4 or .MKV movies, while Samsung simply plays all. So, I had to play my downloaded movies via the USB port on my LG BD350 Blu-Ray player connected to it. Overall, I like it a lot and I would have rated it 5-stars only if it can play .MP4 and .MKV files. Because of this missing feature, it can only get 4 stars from me.

After extensive research and visits to video stores, we chose the 42SL90 for several reasons - stunning HD quality, LED technology, small form factor, bluetooth, and excellent price/value. We were limited in size by our entertainment center - most other 42 inch sets were too wide, but the form factor of the 42SL90 is so svelte that it fits perfectly. After comparing 40 inch sets with 42 inch sets, the extra 2 inches of real estate was quite a noticeable improvement.

I did a lot of research before buying this TV and for this size LED there was nothing better...and the price was great. It's a little heavier than I was expecting, but the glass front makes the whole thing look incredible. The image is sharp and vibrant. I'm a professional photographer so I'm very aware of things like color profiles. LED is the best I've seen to date, and LG takes this new technology to its extremes. I would definitely recommend this TV to anyone.

Plasma and LCD panels may look similar, but the flat screen and thin profile is where the similarities end. Plasma screens, as its name suggests, uses a matrix of tiny gas plasma cells charged by precise electrical voltages to create a picture. LCD screens (liquid crystal display) are in layman's terms sandwiches made up of liquid crystal pushed in the space between two glass plates. Images are created by varying the amount of electrical charge applied to the crystals. Each technology has its strengths and weaknesses

Apart from becoming increasingly price competitive, LCD has the edge over plasma in several other key areas. LCDs tend to have higher native resolution than plasmas of similar size, which means more pixels on a screen.

LCDs also tend to consume less power than plasma screens, with some of the newer "Eco" LCD panels able to use half of the power than equivalent plasmas, with the trade-off being lower brightness.

In terms of bulk, LCDs are also generally lighter than similar-sized plasmas, making it easier to move around or wall mount. This is because LCDs use plastic in their screen make-up whereas plasmas tend to use glass.

When I finally made up my own mind, an LCD HDTV was my choice of televisions. The decision was not easy, with the various models and screen sizes, but I am very pleased with the picture and performance of my LCD HDTV.
