4-H Communications Project
Are you looking for a project to get involved in in 4-H? Do you enjoy public speaking? Making websites? Blogging? Facebook? Twitter? Making movies? Advertising? Talking? Communicating?? Perhaps the 4-H Communications Project could be just for you! What Exactly Is Involved In This Project?
When you think of the 4-H Communications Project, you are most likely going to think of public speaking! This is a big part of the communications project, but it is not the only part. In fact, a lot of the things you are already doing are communications. Every time you write a letter, you are communicating. Talking to friends is communicating! Use applications like Facebook and Twitter? Those are online communication tools. If you keep a blog, then that counts as communicating, as well. Making movies is also a good way of communicating! Sometimes the best way to give a message is to show your message through film. Pretty much any interaction with others is communications. When you practice and work on improving those things, that is how you participate in the 4-H Communications Project. Public Speaking
Speech is one of the best ways to get involved in the Communications Project. Whether you are a pro at it, or if you just enjoy talking in front of or to others, then you can find a place in this project. If you are already in this project, then this is simply one of the best and most common ways to get involved. Look for local speech competitions. Ask your teachers or 4-H leaders if they know of any competitions going on near you. See if you can find some online! Ask local colleges or community colleges. They might be having an academic competition and invite high schoolers to compete. Maybe public speaking is on there! Of course, don't forget about the 4-H Speech competition! There are 4 levels: club, county, regional, and state! If you win at regionals, you could win a free trip to State Congress! So it's always worth a shot. Plus - it looks great in your portfolio. Making Movies
This is probably my personal favorite. I LOVE making movies. Like I said before, sometimes the best way to get your message across, is to show people through film. You can make movies about anything! (Within reason...) I have made several movies about different things. I have made a movie about 4-H state round-up. Then I posted it on YouTube. You can watch it by clicking here. I've also made a movie promoting anti-smoking. You can watch that one by clicking here. Make a movie related to your 4-H club, or about something you have been doing in 4-H! Is your club about to embark on a new service project? Make a movie about it! You can use movies for citizenship, leadership, and promoting 4-H, along with your project! Movie Making Resources

Blogging
There's a whole other method of communicating besides movies and speech. Ever thought of online communications? Blogging is a great way to communicate with the world. It's like an online journal. I love blogging! It's my special place to vent, tell about what I'm involved with, share things that I have been learning from God's Word, and more! Click here to go see my blog!! If you are interested in setting up a blog, I recommend Wordpress. Another blogging site you can use is Google Blogger. I have used both and my personal favorite is Wordpress, but both are great. You can use a blog to blog about your personal life, or what you are doing in 4-H, or something related to your communications project- i.e.- public speaking, movie making, online communications (like making webpages, etc), and so on. Facebook/Twitter/Etc
Facebook and Twitter are wonderful online communication tools. They are social websites where you can connect with others and share information. Of course, another word for sharing information is communicating. So it definitely goes hand in hand. On Twitter, every time you post a message all of your followers will get that message sent to their home page! Same thing on Facebook! This is a great way to mass communicate, if you have a lot of followers on Twitter or friends on Facebook. When you want to post a message, or have something to say, you can easily get it out. You can use this to promote 4-H in so many ways! Tweet or post about your club and what they are doing. Tweet/post about websites that you have made or movies that you have put up on YouTube. Websites/Webpages
Creating websites or webpages is a great way to give information out to the whole world! I have made websites about 4-H and I have even made one about my Citizenship Project. You can see it by clicking here. Making a website is not as hard as you would think. You can use free websites like Freewebs or Wix. Or if you are looking for more of a challenge, why not learn HTML? There's so many cool things you can do with HTML. For example.... you can create a link. Like this.. Or... you can make your text bold. Or you can even put pictures in! - Wow, I'm really enjoying seeing how 4-H has changed. I did public speaking in DPA one year as a kid, making movies would have been even more fun. Lucky you!
