DOGS ARE SPECIAL
Whether your dog serves a special purpose or is a family pet, that dog is special. Purebred or mixed breed, doesn't matter. All dogs are special. They are there when we need them. Dogs accept us when no one else does.If you are lucky enough to own or be owned by a dog, you have a relationship like no other. Our dogs show appreciation like no human can. Their eyes follow us everywhere we go. They lay at our feet or on our beds. Where ever we go, our dog is there with us.
What more could we want as dog owners.
If you have problems with your dog, please seek professional help(make sure they understand dogs not just train them). To have that special relationship, read everything you can to understand your dog. Don't just try to force your thinking on your pet. Every dog can be great. Sometimes dogs fulfill a serious role in our lives as seen in the HERO video below. There are other times when they make us laugh. God must have loved us very much to have sent us the dog as a friend. Whether serious or funny, dogs are special.
It is a privilege to be able to live with a dog or dogs. They improve our lives in so many ways. Certain dogs have jobs just like we do. Only their job isn't 9-5. It's a 24/7 job. They are on call at all times. And do we ever see them depressed about having to work without paid vacations or weekends off. No. They're glad even delighted to serve their owners. These working dogs perform tirelessly. They love their jobs and their owners. A more devoted worker has yet to be found.
If your dog doesn't have a job title, don't think less of him. His job is loving you and keeping you company. THE WORLD OF DOGS
The world of dogs is a special place. To be a part of that world, we need to understand it. Have you ever watched your dog do something and wonder why they do that? I'm sure you can think of something. Some things are rather obvious, such as greeting people with sniffing you know where.....But what about when your dog greets you at the door like you've been gone for weeks. If you read Jan Fennel's book The Dog Listener: Learn How to Communicate with Your Dog for Willing Cooperation
, you'll start to understand a lot more why your dog does the things he does.Going back to why they greet us with such fanaticism. Jan states it very well in her book. The short of it is: They think we are their kids. That's the truth. She's been studying this for quite a while before deciding to put this information out to the world.
If you as a parent saw your young child leave and didn't know where they had gone or when they'd be back, you'd be frantic. Well that's what they feel once we return home. They're frantic to make sure we're O.K. Those buggers think they have to watch over us. What a burden they carry and all because we don't understand their world.
If you have any doubts about what I'm telling you, check out Jan's book, The Dog Listener. She explains in quite a lot of detail what she has learned and the peace it has brought to many, many dogs. I've started using her understanding of dog communication in training my own dogs. It has already in just a few days made them calmer. Before they were all over me in sometimes painful ways.
Dog training the conventional way has left a very bad taste in my mouth. I really didn't want to train anymore because I wanted to avoid those methods. Now I'm enjoying working with my dogs. They're enjoying it, too.
