For the Love of Business Podcasts

Ranked #16,437 in Business & Work, #318,176 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund

An eclectic (& growing) list of business-related podcasts.

I love to cycle and walk listening to podcasts. I listen to lots of different kinds of podcasts, and have for at least six years. I am also a business consultant and management lecturer, and so have an interest in these topics.

This is a list of podcasts I listen to regularly that are about business. Some are more business-y than others.

Please contribute the business podcasts you love to listen to (below).

Note About Content: The podcasts I promote here are free to download and listen to. I have no interest in any organisation whose podcasts are included in this lens.

A Confession

Global content, proudly Australian.

Australian Broadcasting CommissionI should be upfront with you. I am an Australian. As so many people do, I started out primarily listening to our national broadcaster, in this case the ABC, or Australian Broadcasting Commission. Don't run a mile. You will find a range of content here. And if you want to educate me about great business podcasts in your country, please add them under the heading 'Your Favourite Podcasts' below.

My Favourite Podcasts

The business podcasts I listen to frequently.

1. Harvard Business IdeaCast http://hbsp.libsyn.com/rss
This is my all-time favourite series of business podcasts. These are short segments on current business topics, including interviews with authors of Harvard Business Review articles and often presenting research-supported findings. (As of writing many are around the theme of the global credit thingumy.)

2. Adaptive Path Podcast http://www.adaptivepath.com/blog/category/podcasts/
I am a strong believer that most ideas never go out of date. These 2008 interviews and presentations on many aspects of digital design are still current today.

3. Catapult Young Guns http://www.abc.net.au/catapult/sound/podcast/catapult.xml
A sadly now lapsed (but still available), series of short interviews with young entrepreneurs about their product, and how they managed to get it to market. Lots of ideas for entrepreneurs of all ages.

4. Jerry Manas' Project Management Podcast Series http://jmanas.audioblog.com/rss/jerry_manas_project_mgt_podcasts.xml
An excellent series of podcasts on project management by the author of Napoleon on Project Management and other very readable project management books. There is some good, current content. However, I also recommend that you go back a bit, as were some excellent podcasts in 2006 about Napoleon's take on managing projects.

5. Conversations with Richard Fidler http://www.abc.net.au/queensland/conversations/conversationspodcast.xml
A great series of hour-long interviews with people from all walks of life. Some of these are business people, and these people often talk candidly with Richard in a way they do not talk to business journalists.

6. The Bottom Line with Evan Davis http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio4/bottomline/rss.xml
A different panel of UK business people each show talking on topical topics.

Need an iPod?

Where to go for an iPod to listen to podcasts.

Many Types of iPods

I use a five year old iPod Shuffle in a tacky (as in non-slippery, not ugly) rubber case, and you can too. If you need an iPod, try a local store, or shop at Apple online: www.apple.com

Or if you prefer to buy from Amazon...

My Sometimes Podcasts

The ones I listen to 'every now and then'...

1. Aesops Fables (http://feeds.feedburner.com/AesopsFablesPodcast)
For a dose of humility and reality - storytale style.

2. Big Ideas (http://www.abc.net.au/rn/podcast/feeds/bia.xml)
Big ideas being discussed by experts in panels, debates and public meetings.

3. The Boyer Lectures http://www.abc.net.au/rn/podcast/feeds/bls.xml
An annual series of 5 lectures given by famous Australians on topics of their choice. 2008 had Rupert Murdoch and 2009 had General Peter Cosgrove.

4. MediaSnackers Podcast http://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/mediasnackers-podcast/id347893860
Enthusiastic marketing-types showcasing organisations using social media.

5. Great Speeches in History http://feeds.feedburner.com/GreatSpeechesInHistory
Many excellent (mainly US) speeches from down through the ages, from Martin Luther King to John F Kennedy. Some audio is poor, as it is original audio of these speakers as recorded on the equipment available at the time.

6. Life Matters (ABC Radio) http://www.abc.net.au/rn/podcast/feeds/lm1.xml
If you like your podcasts bite-sized (for short trips or long trips when your attention span is not great), this is for you. Lots of topical topics discussed by people in-the-know. My only frustration is that the really interesting ones run out long before I get bored.

Googling for instructions is a great way to go, but if you prefer to use a book, and you have (or plan to have) an iPod to listen to podcasts, try one of these:
