A Mini Homemade Spa That Won't Break The Bank
Have you've been contemplating a trip to your local day spa, perhaps even to an exotic location where pampering and luxury go hand in hand? I hear ya, I'm there! However, how many of us can actually take the time let alone the money, (especially these days!!) to afford an escape to paradise?
I know I can't, not with 4 kids, a husband and a home to care for, but how can you experience the benefits of a spa without breaking the bank? Three words - Mini Homemade Spa!
Step 1 De-Clutter
1.De-clutter - Seriously, you can't relax in a bathroom cluttered with your kids toys or your hubby's
shaving gear. When I redecorated my bathroom, I painted half my wall a serene aqua color with the
bottom half a stark white with simple molding separating the two. I hung a basic white wooden blind
with wide slats. My shower curtain is a lighter version of the aqua on my wall. I also bought a more
expensive bathroom rug in the same color with extra cushion which feels great on the feet.
Although my simple color theme lends itself to a very calm and relaxing atmosphere, the clutter my kids leave behind is anything but. That's why de-cluttering before your spa is a must.
Step 2 - Towels
2. Fluffy Towels Grab your best towels, big and fluffy. Depending on what treatment you give yourself, (especially body wraps) you may want a couple of these on hand. There's nothing quite like wrapping yourself in luxurious, super soft towels. If you don't have any on hand, then purchase them. It's worth the investment, just don't give your husband or kids a go at them.
Step 3 - Set The Mood
3. Candles and Music A real spa will indulge all your senses. I prefer the smell and sounds of nature, with a particular interest in the soothing sounds of water and tropical scents, after all, the key ingredients in a real spa are natural water sources, so hearing the trickle of a nearby fountain will definitely transport you to another part of the world. Candles come in all scents these days and they can also offer mood lighting.
Step 4 - Spa Treatments
4. Spa treatments should be decided before hand. You can make your own recipes or purchase them. A good start would be to either make or buy a face mask, body scrub, epsom salts and essential oils. Again, I like to go with a theme, in my case, something tropical like citrus or wild flowers, the choices are endless.
Step 5 - Step Out In Style
5. End Your Spa In Luxury Go the extra mile if you can and buy yourself an extra fluffy bathrobe and slippers. You would be amazed how wonderful it feels to buy quality materials.
Last Word
Take the time to indulge in a homemade spa. Put aside at least 20 minutes every week to rejuvenate and calm your mind, body and soul.
