Why Relieving Stress is So Important

Stress relief is important because too much stress does not only make you unhappy and frustrated but can also make you unhealthy because chronic stress increases the likelihood of developing mental disorders such as anxiety and depression and also lowers your immune system making you prone to disease and sickness.

activities for stress relief are therefore essential for you if you feel like you are losing control and stress is becoming a major problem in your life.

5 Activities for Stress Relief You Should Consider

1. Yoga

Yoga is a great way you can exercise as well as stretch your body which has been known to reduce stress and promote relaxation and well being. This is not a mystical experience just a way of exercising that does not stress you or push you further than you want to go but does give the benefit of better health through good blood flow and less tense muscles.

2. Meditation

I really like meditation and that that it is a great tool to reduce stress. Being able to achieve a meditative trance allows the mind to disconnect from all the stressful thoughts so you can reflect on them better and also focus inwards on your own self which allows more control and an amazing sense of well being. making meditation a ritual is very helpful.

3. Laughing

Some people laugh at me when I say this which is good ... because they just released some stress! Laughing and humor have been shown to greatly lower stress levels and reduce the stress hormones in your body. If you are in an office try to liven the mood up a bit and promote a healthy laugh without trying to force it and in your own time comedy via TV, movies a book or just your friends and family will help you maintain a better level of stress.

4. Short Intense Exercise

I mentioned yoga but some people have not way to do it or no time so one thing i encourage is short intense exercise that will get your heart racing and your blood pumping because this will release endorphins which are a feel good chemical the body produces at various times like after exercise. IT will make you feel good and confident and acts against cortisol the stress hormone. If I need a do this I try running up and down the fire stairs at my work during the lunch break ... just 5-10 minutes of that and i am puffed and my heart pounding but i feel good!

5. Musical Relaxation

Speaking of endorphins, listening to relaxing music such as classical music for a period of time has been shown to also release endorphins for whatever reason which will make you feel refreshed but I also believe it stimulates many parts of the brain and can take your mind off your worries for a time allowing you to attack them with renewed vigor.

More Help to Permanently Reduce Stress

These are just a few general suggestions for activities for stress relief but there are many more and many you may not even realize unless an expert told you.

A great downloadable guide to stress relief with 400 tips, tricks and activities that will have you feeling in control and unstressed in no time is a book called "Why Make Yourself Crazy". The author has worked in the world of newspapers (like me) so i believe him when he says he knows stress and that he does!

This is a great book I keep a print out on hand even now as a useful reference and an idea book for helping myself and my colleagues get through tough days, weeks and even months!
