5 Great Buenos Aires Videos

Ranked #9,792 in Travel & Places, #251,791 overall

Buenos Aires is not just Tango!

Oh the smell of Buenos Aires! I will remember that smell for the rest of my life. And I'm not talking about the smell of traffic but the coffee from the cafés, pizza and love.

We chose to stay in Buenos Aires for 91 days for our Travel Blog as our first stop in South America. And we chose wisely! We were there from February - April 2011 and had an incredible time. Buenos Aires is so much more than we expected and we would like to go back any time!

In this article I will post couple of videos I took during our time there. And yes, there will be Tango but many other interesting things as well.

During our stay we are always trying to become semi locals and not only do things straight from the travel books.

Buenos Aires Tips

Before you come to Buenos Aires

San Telmo

Hello again, I'm glad I got your attention and I'm very happy that you continue reading this lens about Buenos Aires.

Here now couple of things you find interesting and helpful. As you read we spent 3 month in Buenos Aires and produced over 100 articles about this city. They are a great resource on what to do and see in Buenos Aires.

Is Buenos Aires a safe city? A lot of people are asking that before coming to Buenos Aires. Our answer that that, use common sense. Wallet in the front pocket, Camera in a bag which doesn't scream CAMERA BAG, stay away from the mustard squirting bastards and if you can at night walk not alone in deserted areas.

Ok now, here are the videos of BUENOS AIRES!

Tango in Buenos Aires

Tango Dinner Show

Let's get the whole Tango thing out of the way. Tango is a huge part and you will encounter Tango quit often, mostly for tourists though BUT there are tango gatherings of locals called Milongas. The probably most famous on is held every Sunday at the end of the San Telmo Market in The Plazza Dorrego. But there are many others.

If you are brave enough go to one of the Dancing Halls for Tango. Most of these halls offer free tango classes before the tango event.

I took this video at a Tango Dinner Show, it's very very touristy. Don't come for the food, a lot of times you can book a table without the dinner and you can eat something beforehand somewhere else.

We actually had a blast at that Dinner Show. Many more tango pictures of that night: El Querandí

Watching Soccer in Buenos Aires

Stay Away from Boca Juniors

I'm not saying that Boca Juniors is a bad team but the hype about it is just ridiculous. The tickets are over priced for foreigners mostly due to tour agencies.

We went and had a bad time. Read about it on our blog. See link above.

So after that we gave watching soccer in Buenos Aires and went too see San Lorenzo play. What a difference and we loved every second of it.

There are many smaller teams within Buenos Aires. Watch them instead of the obvious!

Chancha Via Cicuito

Underground Music Scene

Before we arrive in a new place we get ourselves in the mood with some local bands. We did some research and found out about Chancha Via Cicuito. I sent the record label an email and they arranged a meeting with Chancha. That was so cool!

Feria de Mataderos

Get your gaucho fix at the Feria de Mataderos. Check their website before heading out there to make sure it's on. Also on a rainy day they will cancel it.

The Palacio Barolo

Best View in Town

The build is very interesting as well and the tour was probably one of the best tours we have taken in Buenos Aires. We even went twice. Enjoy the view and below you will find out about some secrets about this Palacio.

Where to Stay in Buenos Aires

We love San Telmo!

Rent an Apartment in San Telmo

We stayed in two different apartments during our 3 month. Both in San Telmo but in different corners of the neighborhood rented out by the awesome people of San Telmo Loft.

Here are the 2 different apartments we rented:

For a nice central hostel we can recommend Art Factory and Babel for a very fine hotel.
