There is also the option of selling merchandise such as shirts and hats promoting your blog if you have a loyal fan base. Blogs are also good if you have a completely unrelated business idea because it allows you immediate access to a group of potential customers.

The great thing about a blog is it can be whatever you want it to be. You can just enjoy writing about things to start and eventually when you have a large audience you can begin to focus your ideas into a way to earn money.

Affiliate marketing is becoming more and more popular. Affiliates are people who sign up to push products for a business and earn a commission for their sales. If you already have a blog with followers this could be a good option for you. There are multiple products in several different categories that offer commissions and the key is finding one that you have an interest in. Also, while looking for an affiliate program to sign up with, keep in mind the level of competition and how hard it will be for you to enter the market. Affiliate marketing is definitely a good way to make money with little effort. The key is generally having a large audience already established to push your product but it is possible to start from scratch. Electronic cigarettes are one example of a type of product that uses a lot of affiliate marketing.

While this may seem like a difficult task, it could be easier than you thought. You hear many people say that they thought of an idea for a product before it was out. This is often the truth and the hard part of business isn't the ideas but rather the execution. Because of this, anyone can come up with a good idea but they might not have the knowledge to know how to implement a business around it.

In the above section I mentioned websites where people hire others for work. Now you are on the other end of this. You can look for people to design websites for your business along with other skills that you may not have. I understand that this does take money to begin but it also has potential for a big return on investment depending on the success of your business. If you honestly think you have the idea for the next big thing, don't allow someone else to make money off of it when you have websites of people looking to do work for you.

Earlier in my lens I mentioned craigslist.com as a good place to find work. Not only can you find work on craigslist, but you can also advertise items that you are looking to sell. Most people have things lying around that are not of any use to them that could be sold to others. Craigslist allows you to sell items quickly to people who are local. Whether you are looking to unload multiple items or just selling the old gym equipment that you never got around to using, craigslist is a good place to start.

If you are looking to sell your items to a larger target market, then ebay.com may be the best option for you. While craigslist is an easy way to make money off of old junk, ebay will be better for items that have more value. Ebay allows you sell your items in multiple ways, such as through an auction or just an outright sale of the item. In the auctions, you can set a reserve price that allows you to keep your item if the set reserve price is not met. There are other features that ebay offers that will help you get the most money for your belongings. Keep in mind that when going through ebay, you will have to ship items so if you are selling something big, craigslist could be a better option. Be sure to do some research on similar items before listing your goods. This will give you an idea of the price you will get for your item and you can get a better understanding of different trends (e.g. many people are attracted to listings with "free shipping").

Do you have an artistic hobby that you enjoy doing in your free time? If you do, then you should take a second to see if there is a way to make some cash off of it. Whether you are a painter, photographer or anything else, there may be some demand for your creations. For the most part, art is something that is hard to judge and even harder to place a dollar value on. As I said earlier, you cant really put a value on a painting so if someone sees a piece of your work that is perfect for a room in their house, then it could be worth a good amount of money to them.

People kick themselves all the time when they see simple products for sale and say, "Why didn't I think of that?" With the technology that is available today, creating your own simple product is easier than ever. Years ago, the manufacturing process was different and it took time, money and connections to get a prototype created. Once it was created, a (most likely overseas) manufacturing company would require a large minimum order and the owner would wait and pray that the products come back in the correct specifications.

Nowadays, we can create prototypes in the comfort of our own home. I mentioned in another one of my lenses how great 3D printers are and the opportunities that can be had from them and will discuss that here as well. 3D printers allow people to design an item on their computer and "print" the product using various materials.

Let me give you an example of how this may work for you:

You are ordering food in line at a store and drop your iPhone on the ground while you are finding the credit card in your wallet. This leads you to think to yourself, "What if I could put my credit card in a case that was on my iPhone?" While this would normally lead to nothing more than idea, 3D printers give you a business opportunity. You would then go home and take measurements of the phone and credit cards. After getting the measurements, you can design it on the computer and print it when you are done. From there, you can test your product and see what adjustments need to be made. If the case is too tight, adjust the size on the computer and print off another prototype in minutes. Keep troubleshooting your product until it is exactly how you want it. This shows how 3D printers eliminate a lot of the problems I mentioned with manufacturing in the beginning of this section.

While the product example may not be the best idea, it demonstrates how anyone with a 3D printer can quickly create a simple product. Once you have your prototype finalized, you will then need to begin working with a manufacturer that can develop it at a low cost. While I am sure it is difficult to mass produce a product in your own home with a 3D printer, it definitely simplifies the initial prototype building process and allows people to follow through with ideas that they may never have been able to in the past.

Whether its houses, cars or something of very little value, flipping items can be one way to earn some easy money. Buying and selling items is easy because you know what you will need to sell something for so that you can remain profitable.

Flipping Items:
If you are looking to increase the value of your purchase then it is important to have some knowledge of what you are doing. By having an interest in the type of product you are working with, it will give you an idea of the market and how much it will cost to make repairs and increase the overall value. Start with cheaper items so that you don't get yourself into a big hole when starting out. Here is the equation that you will need to follow if you want to flip items.

Final Selling Price > Original Sale Price + Cost of Improvements

If you have an idea of at least 2 of the variables in this equation, you can generally determine whether or not you will be profitable before buying an item.

Buying and Selling:
If fixing things is not your strong suit, then you can still make money buying and selling different items. This is much easier because it removes the variable "Costs of Improvements" and allows you to focus on just the final sale price. Look at garage sales and on craigslist to find any item that may be cheaper that its market value. An old chair may only be selling for $2 but if you think you can sell it for $3, then you should purchase it and capitalize on the opportunity. Different people will obviously looking for different levels of return, but for everyone the only thing that matters is selling the product at a higher price than what you got it for. In order to maximize your return, I would recommend starting off by lowering your costs and looking primarily at free items that people are looking to give away. This will allow you to sell the items at a profit no matter what the customer is willing to pay and keep you out of a hole when starting out.

Everyone has knowledge or skills that others might be lacking in. For every person that knows something, there is another person out there struggling to grasp the concept. By finding what you are good at, you can help others achieve goals that they have set for themselves. Whether it is tutoring a high school student for an upcoming exam, or helping your siblings get into better shape, find people around you that are looking to obtain some of your qualities. Talk to your friends and family and ask them what qualities you possess that they wish that they had. This will give you an idea of what you are good at if you are having trouble coming up with an idea. Not only does this give you ideas, but it also puts a prospective customer right in front of you telling you what they want. Again, there is a variety of things that you can help people with such as teaching them how to cook, sew or by providing an extra mind to help understand a tough subject.

There are two ways that I would use to go about this. If you know what you can offer people, begin by posting an ad on a local site such as craigslist.com to begin finding potential clients in your area. Some people may not be sure of what they are good at, but you still have opportunities that are present. Also on craigslist.com, you will be able to find people who are looking for someone to help them with things. These listings can either provide you with a variety of possible job opportunities or maybe just give you an idea on what people are looking for and tailor your ideas from there.

I would recommend talking to friends and family and start with them. This will give you the chance to work with people that you are comfortable with and test out the methods that you will use. From there, assuming you do a good job, you can ask for referrals and continue building up your clientele.

Seasonal jobs are another great way to earn money. Things like shoveling snow, raking leaves, and washing cars are all examples of things that people need done throughout the year. I will list some examples of seasonal jobs below but will begin by why they are effective and you can decide if there are any that pique your interest.

- You can stay enthused by avoiding monotonous daily routines throughout the year
- There is generally a very low start-up cost which provides high margins
- If you do a good job, you can use the same clients for other services in different seasons
- Can be both active or more relaxed
- Every season provides a new opportunity
- You can control your business

Here are some of the seasonal jobs that I thought of. Keep in mind that seasonal does not just include the four seasons but also things like holiday and tax season.

- Snow blowing/Plowing/Shoveling
- Clear snow from rooftops
- Wash cars
- Wrap gifts
- Do someone's taxes
- Rake leaves
- Mow lawns
- Hang Christmas lights
- Trim trees and bushes
