Lapbook of the 50 States

We started out by exchanging state postcards through the Postcard Kids Yahoo Group

With the postcards we set up the bulletin board with a map of the states and an envelope to keep the postcards. For each new state postcard we've rec'd, we put a pin in the map. See the intro photo.

From there we got the idea to make a whole lapbook of the 50 states. It's still a work in progress and we finish up trivia cards and collect the rest of the postcards. See the rest of the story below.

P.S. What is The Homeschool Club?

THE HOMESCHOOL CLUB is real parents and kids sharing their best resources for great homeschooling. Each day we celebrate learning by opening doors to a world of creativity, knowledge and discovery. In the car, at the kitchen sink, and down by the frog pond - the whole world is our classroom and we explore it with creative projects, games, and activities. This club is a place to share, organize, and discuss how and what we learn in the world. Make a free page to tell your own homeschooling story and share your favorite resources. We can't wait to hear from you!

Great lens! We're just about to begin our unit study on the 50 states. I found http://www.homeschoolhelperonline.com/lapbooks/state.htm which offers free lapbook pages for the 50 states.

Well done ... I'm featuring this on my State Flag Coloring Pages lens. My dad is a ham radio operator and has hundreds of postcards from all over the world. I should really organize them in lapbooks like this.

I like that idea. I'm more of a traditional schooler myself, but it might make a good idea for a project.

Great lens! We've never really done lapbooks, mostly because of my lack of time and the fact that I don't like doing art projects! :) But, this is really cool. Another fun way for early elementary age to learn states is the Which Way USA magazine by Highlights for Children - easy, fun puzzles/games that also teach them the basics of reading a map
