A 30 Day Challenge To Save Our Home
My husband and I have been keeping the plates spinning for a long time, but as you know, if one plate gets off balance, they all fall down!
We're trying to work to renegotiate our mortgage. The bank says they'll let us know in 45-60 days if they're willing to work with us, but if we can't make our payments in 30 days, they'll accelerate (read: start foreclosure).
That's not good enough...
So, from August 3-31, 2009, I issued the 500 Hat Challenge. My plan was to knit 500 hats. They are still available at my eCrater store. You can buy one (10, 20, 100!) for only $10 each, and keep it for yourself or a friend.
If you're not a hat person (and/or extremely generous), you can donate your hat(s) to the homeless at Modesto Gospel Mission .
You get a great hat, a great story and a great feeling. We get to keep our house (and have a little chuckle on the bank).
If you can't buy a hat, please bookmark, share or otherwise spread the word about this Challenge.
It means the world to me and my family! Many, many thanks!

The 500 Hats Challenge Is Over...
But you can still get a hat, jewelry or other unique knitted items for yourself, or to give as gifts!

- We're still waiting for an answer from the bank! I sold enough hats to keep us at 30 days past due, so we're ok for now. Sorry to hear about your home. Hope things will look up for you soon.

- Wow! I have not been active in squidoo. We actually lost our house. Were you able to keep yours? I saw my best friend bought one of your hats and she is not even on squidoo and until I saw your lens I had no idea she knew about this 500 hats. What a great idea!

- I feel with you, being in foreclosure for a year already. Hope you will come out on top! I just made a lens (how to win in court) with a link to a different kind of foreclosure defense that keeps the banks on their toes: Neil Garfield's "livinglies" blog - a must read for homeowners in distress.

- I just discover this lens. It's a great one, with a great goal! Wish you the best of luck in this awful financial situation that hit us and seems not having had an effect on those that lead the economic world!
