I just ordered the super-duper giant bundle from Currcllick. Thanks for this-- my students hate social studies, so I'm trying to spruce it up in an educational way. State notebooks would be perfect!

Wow, many teachers in the regular school system could stand to learn a LOT of creative teaching ideas from lenses like this -- from homeschoolers. Excellent! *Blessed*

I LOVE this lens. I was homeschooled and did something similar, but the book wasn't one I put together myself, it was purchased. I LOVED doing this! It was so fascinating to learn about all the different states and it fulfilled my endless urge to categorize everything. Wonderful resource!

Hi, Jimmie! SnowWhite from the WP forums here. We are going to Amer history for a second, more in-depth pass now and I am so thankful to have found this page! We will be making a state notebook now that Joshua is old enough to benefit. (He was a second grader when we did AS1.)

Great lens and resource. Squidoo Angel Thumbs Up!
  • marsha32 Sep 1, 2010 @ 11:38 am | delete
excellent! We've been discussing doing a notebook as well. Then it was suggested that as I build it, to make a separate squidoo lens for each State as we complete each one. I can see that if we start this it will probably end up being an on going project until she is a Senior.

Thanks Jimmie for an awesome lens! We will be doing our state study in 4th-5th grades, and now I'm really excited to get started! My son will be in 3rd grade this year, so we still have a while before we start! :) We are doing Galloping the Globe (country studies) in 2nd-3rd grades, which he really loves. After looking up all of this great info, I know he will enjoy his state studies too! Thanks again!

Jimmie, this is a fabulous lens! I love what you have done here. It is not only educational, but beautiful too. 5 stars for a job well done. I can tell that you are an excellent home school Mom!. Two of my daughters in Hawaii home school also and I believe it is the best way to go.

I lensrolled this lens to all of 6 of my Big Island of Hawaii lenses since it is part of the 50th state. I also joined your Fan Club and added you to my Faves.

Thank you for stopping by my Surviving On a Tight Budget lens. Unfortunately when you were there I had just started it and their wasn't much to see. I just added some more, but it is not done yet. Stop by again when you have the time.

We will be beginning a states study in a few weeks. We will also be adding info about the new state quarters since most are finished, only waiting on Hawaii and Alaska now. I purchased the State Series Quarters Collector Map for each kid and I found some great websites to use with them. Here are some links if you are interested in adding these to your page...

I love all your lens! Keep it up!

This is a really great idea for kids, teaches them not only to be artistic, but to learn about their country. There is so much to find out and learn about. It's sad how little kids know about geography and history these days.
Got to give you 5 ***** for the great content and artwork.

This looks like a great collection. I love some of the links you have included. Some I've seen before, but others are completely new to me. Now I have a lot to explore.

You might want to add http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/50states to your collection of resources. It has tons of info on each state. Fun facts, population, year admitted to the union, flags, flowers, brief histories, and more are included on that page.

Dover Publications (http://www.doverpublications.com) also has the following: "State Birds Stickers and Seals: 50 Full-Color Pressure-Sensitive Designs", "United States Coloring Book", and "State Birds and Flowers Coloring Book" ranging in price from about $3 to about $6.

I will definitely be saving this for our state study next year! Thanks so much for putting this together.

    Blessings,
    Missy
