My Parents 50th Anniversary - May 2009

Ranked #10,358 in Culture & Society, #208,484 overall

50 Years ago May 25, 1959

My mom and dad, affectionately called "Vic" and "Slim" will be celebrating their golden 50th on May 25, 2009. That means as their oldest daughter, I will be the main "party planner" for the reception. I live 500 miles away from my parents so it won't be a small feat! However, I have enlisted the help of my 23 year old daughter, who is pretty creative, just like her mom, so that takes some of the pressure off. Still...May will be here before we know it so the plans are underway.

Because the 25th falls on a Monday and it will also be Labor Day...we have opted to have the reception the following Saturday, May 30th. I have already reserved the fellowship hall at the Baptist church my mom attends.

Update: Wow...the time is almost here! Every thing is pretty much ready to go! I mailed the invitations today!

How my parents met

Both my parents were working at the old Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mom was a nurse's aide and dad was an orderly. Mom says she was making a patient's bed and dad came by and told her she was doing it all wrong and proceeded to show her how it was supposed to be done. They began dating and 3 months later they were married.

A Family of Four

Here come the kids...

I was born in July of 1960 and my little sister,Lynne, came along September of 1962.

There are now 4 grandchildren: Shane, Dustin, Robin and Adam.

There are 3 great grandchildren: Alayna, Brooklyn and LilyRose
The photo shown is my dad sitting in my mom's lap and she was almost ready to have me. You can't see her belly, but she says she was pretty big.

Reception Plans so far...

If you have any ideas please feel free to add to the guestbook!

This will be ongoing until the reception day. Ideas may come and go and I will be updating all along.

Menu so far:

Deli Spirals
Oreo Truffles
Chocolate Fountain - Kettle chips, strawberries, pretzels and marshmallows
Cheese Tray and Crackers
mints/nuts/punch

Decorations:
White Table cloths
Gold Tulle - white christmas lites underneath
Candles/tea lites, crystal dishes

Floral arrangement (made by my daughter)

Corsages are made for mom, my sister and I, oldest granddaughter and oldest granddaughter in law. The 3 great granddaughters will all have small corsages. Well, the youngest will actually have a corsage style barette made for her hair.

I have the guest book, photo album, cake server bought. Hershey nugget wraps with my parents name, wedding date. The invitations are done and they are in the envelopes ready to send. I bought little gold double hearts stickers to place on the envelopes.
The 3 great granddaughters have colored poster size cards to hang on the walls.

Over the Years

These photos are going on the slide show but I will be adding more once I get a chance to go through mom and dad's photo albums.

hey i am planning my in laws 5oth wedding anniversary for june 14th 2009. I love the pictures and the web site. I like your ideas we are thinking catering a lunch 50 gold roses as a center piece. some of the peoiple in their wedding are still aive so we are making a head table with the wedding party and placing little gold picture frames of them selves on the day the wedding was in front of them. we are doing white table cloths and gold napkins shaped in to swans they had swans on their wedding cake. I will have a slide show and a harp playing and boutiniers and corsages for the in laws ans the people in the wedding. The lady who cut the cake we found out is alive and in a nursing home but doing well we are trying to see if she can come back and cut the cake again. good luck and keep me posted at hairshopgrl2@sbcglobal.net I would like to do a web page like this one too. I am going to use the ivory and gold set of flutes and cake servers and have them engrave.
