5 Things Every Haunted Person Should Know

Ranked #4,680 in Culture & Society, #98,692 overall

Is your house haunted? Do you feel at your wits' end?

Pick them up and put them back in place; you don't have to lose them!

Many unknown things frighten people, but of all the mysterious things, ghosts are both most alluring to the imagination, and frightening to the senses. The problem with this mix is that imagination and fear both take over, making someone who is haunted feel that a ghost is a difficult problem, not easy to remove.

This lens is about the five things every haunted person should know about dealing with, and removing, a ghostly presence.

The Five Things Every Haunted Person Should Know

  1. Fear and fearful belief makes everything seem much worse than it is.
  2. There are many natural causes that seem to create paranormal experience.
  3. There are many kinds of actual ghost activity.
  4. Be very, very careful of people who say they can help you.
  5. There are simple things you can do that will help clear a haunting.

#1: Fear and fearful belief makes everything seem much worse than it is.

I cannot tell you how many times I have gotten a message that is titled "Help Me!!! I Am Desperate!!!" and the problem that is in the message is really a very simple or common one. Fear makes us think things are happening that aren't. If you have a fearful belief, such as a belief in demons, it can make huge problems you wouldn't have if you don't believe in them.

Always work to put aside the fear first.

#2: There are many natural causes that seem to create paranormal experience.

Check the surroundings carefully to make sure nothing natural caused sounds, light effects, shadows, and other seemingly paranormal activity. Keep notes on what is going on - not what you think mught be going on, but exactly what is happening at the time, what time it happens, who is present when it happens. Then look at what you have, and get advice from people who know how to look at the evidence. (See the recommendations below).

The Atlantic Paranormal Society

If you want information, on anything from actual evidence to look for, on how to tell if your home is haunted, to the different beliefs people have about hauntings, this is website to go to. They can also refer responsible ghost investigation teams in your area.

This is the actual organizations website, not the Syfy website. Much better information here...

#3: There are more ghosts than you know.

This is something to always remember: What you see as a ghost, sees you the same way.

You are as much a creature from another dimension for them as they are to you. What you do will puzzled them as they puzzle you. You might even frighten them, and they may react to defend themselves.

Most of the conscious energies that haunt places are the energies of human beings, with minds like yours remember that. Think about what you would do in confronting someone who is alive when you have a problem situation.

#4: Be Very Very Careful Of People Who Say They Can Help You

Sometimes a problem can seem so bad that someone who is haunted may go looking for someone who can clear the house for them.

Some come to regret that decision very, very much. Some of the people I have been working with are still dealing with the aftermath of making that decision, so I am not going to go into details here. But here are the basics: Just because people come into your house volunteering their services for no pay does not mean they are honest and decent people. They can still be running a scam. They can still be using you to build a reputation for themselves that shouldn't be built. And they can bring more terror into your house than you had before, by introducing rituals and ideas that frighten you and your family.

One simple question can help more than any other: Ask the people offering a clearance if they believe in demons. It doesn't matter why they believe in demons, if they truly believe in them, and want to do exorcism rituals, don't let them in the house. Seeing that demon exorcism has been a prominent practice for centuries I expect to get a lot of arguments about this, but believe me: if you really look into the practice, there is not a high success rate for exorcisms, or other rituals relating to a belief in demons. There are a lot of stories about the problems getting worse.

Energy clearance is a different matter. Look for someone who can help clear negative energy and entities, someone who understands the basics. Find out ahead of time what kind of practice they do. Look for something that seems like common sense to you.

Past that advice, there are more things to look for:

First and foremost : References. Not references they provide. Go on the Internet. Responsible people will have business like, reasonable websites. Fakes love to brag.

Want to really make sure? Tell them you need them to sign an agreement. Look at the lens 5 Things Every Ghost Hunter Should Know.
The things listed in that lens are the things you should be promised they will do. If, when you even mention an agreement, they back off right then, it saves you time.

This is one area where you need the help of people who can come into the situation with the most expertise and the least attitude. The ones who really have the experience that can help will understand why you are being cautious. The ones who don't will want you to throw all caution to the wind.

#5: There are simple things you can do that will help clear a haunting.

You would be amazed at some of the things that will help you clear a house.

The biggest surprise: Clean with water, vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice. These things, working together, actually remove negative charge buildup in the home, and restore balance in the energy. What should you clean? Almost anything from the floors to yourself! Along the way you will also find this is the best cleaning solution around because it releases the charges that holds dirt together.

You don't have to be exact with the measurements here, but usually I use about half cup of vinegar and a quarter cup of baking soda in a gallon of water. Lemon juice can be added for scent, because the acid in the juice will also work with these ingredients to dispel a negative charge. It works with conscious energy the same way it works with electricity.

If you are going to make changes to a property that you feel is haunted, go ahead and explain what's about to happen before you do it. Respect the spirits in the place by letting them know you must make changes. Then pay attention - if something upsets them they will let you know! Don't be afraid, just understand you're not the only people in the house and the spirits have been there, probably. longer than you have. be respectful of that, but also be firm that you need to make changes, and it's about time they made some changes too, such as moving on.

The best help for getting entities to move on, comes from the Other Side! Ask your spirit guides to work with their spirit guides and help them move on. You may not be aware you have guides. Whatever you believe in about angels, spirit guides, companions, or even never had a belief at all, consider this: you feel a presence in your house that you need to go. if you believe in that presence, believe in the presence of guidance as well, and ask for help. It's there.

Use your own will. Ever wonder how really forceful people can get their own way about things? Will. Pure and simple. Believe in yours. Use it. it really doesn't take much effort; you just must lose the fear of using it. Need a ghost to go? This is your house, and you're not sharing any longer. It's time for the uninvited ghost to go. Say goodbye and shut the door. Lock it.

How do you lock a psychic door on something? You let go of it. You don't shut the door then spend time wondering if it's just outside that door. You let it go and you move on.

Sensible Protection, and Spirit Guides

Spirit guides are your best help in getting rid of paranormal activity, because they know the hows and wherefores of what is going on.

There are a number of really simple things you can do to protect yourself, as well... and ways to help a ghost go, that you can do for yourself.

The Energy Is There

I don't have any problems with entities in my home - but it is still haunted.

The activity stays very quiet. I feel the dark entities that were here when the man lived in this place are long gone, but there is a presence that stays with me. I don't try to give it a name anymore, I don't try to contact it, or figure out what or who it is. I thank it when it does something for me, but I don't dwell on the thing that happened for long. I don't know how many are actually here - I know at least one sentient or human, and one animal (a cat I have never seen but others have). I don't worry about it, worry over it, or worry it - and we are at peace. We keep things balanced. My life is my priority, and whatever is its priority belongs to it.

Try that. If you have activity, no matter what it is, make a life you are comfortable with, and don't worry that there is something unseen around you - there is ALWAYS something unseen around you!

There is a great magic in making things normal and comfortable. And there is a greater strength to be found in letting each of you learn to deal with the unknown without fear, on your own terms.
If you want the entity gone or quiet, you set those terms, with strength of will, certainty, and without fear. Trust your ability to do this.

If the entity is dark, that is its normal - remember that. At least respect that point. By that I mean, if dark activity increases when you try certain rituals someone else has guaranteed will work, it's not the entity who is causing the chaos - it's you. That Paranormal State episode when Chip Coffey said the dark entity was yelling "Get rid of all the religious (things)" all those things may have been jacking up the chaos, and the dark energy may have been saying "can you cut down on the noise?"

I have found that when you make your protection, your shielding, and your cleansing practices simple and intensely personal, the entities respect that. To get your attention, when you are throwing things at them that are uncomfortable, they will make you uncomfortable right back. If things keep escalating, look at what you are doing, don't just blame it on the darkness.

My guide just gave me this for an example:

There is an ancient and forgotten ritual buried inside the Celtic tradition of having a dark haired man be the first to step foot in a new home, or in a home on New Year's at midnight (The Hogmanay First Footer). If you bid the darkness welcome, then the darkness will leave you at peace. That doesn't mean embracing it, but respecting that it is a part of all things.

Accept the normal. Establish your own. When you balance things and meet on a middle ground - where the different norms of light and dark can meet in peace - you'll be able to accomplish the peaceful home you want.
