What To Do In Vegas If You Don't Gamble

If you fly into Las Vegas, one of the first things you'll notice when you step off the plane are the slot machines in the terminal. This is just the city's first attempt to part you from your money, and it certainly won't be the last. Everyone knows that Vegas is the place to go for gambling; slots, cards, tables - Vegas has it all! But what if you don't gamble? Is Vegas still worth a visit for people who don't get a thrill by testing their luck?

In short: heck yeah!

I'm of the mind that you have to experience Las Vegas at least once in order to appreciate all the pop cultural references that flow from this desert oasis. You don't, however, have to drop your retirement fund in a casino to enjoy the trip.

6 Things To Do In Las Vegas If You Do not Gamble

1. Walk The Strip

Las Vegas Blvd, more commonly known as The Strip, has become synonymous with the Vegas experience. You could spend an entire day and night just walking up and down this street gawking at the sights. Where else can you see a miniature version of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Eiffel Tower within a few blocks of each other? Of course, it's not all about mini-landmarks. You can also see over-sized guitars and larger than life M&Ms. Yeah, that's the kind of town Vegas is.

2. Watch the Bellagio Fountains show.

One of the best shows in Vegas is absolutely free and takes places every 15-30 minutes. Catch the water fountains dancing in time to music during the day and at night. Stay awhile and watch different shows set to different songs from a variety of musical genres. I may be a nostalgic sap, but the Bellagio Fountains never fail to give me chills.

3. Ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower

A tourist trap? Maybe. But it's one heck of a view from the top if you're a tourist! I've only taken the trip up the Eiffel Tower in the Paris Hotel and Casino at night, and the miles and miles of twinkling lights were breathtaking to behold, but I'm told the view is also fantastic during the day.

4. Have a really great meal

French cuisine in VegasThe options for fine dining in Vegas are limitless. I've eaten some of the best food of my life in this town, and it's difficult to pick a favorite. Highlights from my last trip included Sunday brunch at Paris's Mon Ami Gabi and dinner at rm seafood in Mandalay Place. There are many opportunities to make a meal an event here, but plan ahead and make reservations if you don't want to wait at least 45 minutes for a table.

5. Shop the Forum Shops at Caesar%u2019s Palace

Even if your budget only allows window shopping, spend some time meandering through The Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace. The atmosphere here is truly unique (and over the top) and it's one of the few places in the country where you can find so many luxury retailers in one place. Of course, this is Vegas, so you'll (soon) find an H&M nestled among the Versace and Cartier.

6. Visit the Freemont Street Experience

Before The Strip became the place to see and be seen in Vegas, Freemont Street was the tourism center of the city. Today, "Old Las Vegas" is still line with old casinos and all-you-can-eat buffets, but it definitely lacks the polish and sparkle of The Strip. However, every night, on the hour, the roof over Freemont Street lights up and music is pumped over the crowd for a free show. The Freemont Street Experience is definitely a must-do for any tourist's first trip to Vegas

I saw lions and seals and wax statues and laid for hours by a pool and flew to the Grand Canyon in an helicopter, and more. I didn't have time to gamble!
