Loving Soul, Northern Soul, Mod, 60's and early 70's

The Mods started listening to the imported African American soul/R&B and Jamaican ska music back in the sixties and the British Bands influenced by this, such as the Who, Small Faces, Kinks..., they wore cool clothes and drove Scooters and were often associated with amphetamine-fuelled all-night dancing. As the sixties progressed and got psychedelic as did most of the mods, the love of the black soul sound, often unknown artists, was still pioneered in many Northern Clubs such as Twisted Wheel in Manchester, The Golden Torch at Stoke, The Blackpool Mecca and The Wigan Casino.

DJ's such as Ian Levine and Kev Roberts were playing unknown singles imported from America and such singles changed hands at the all nighters for a tidy sum (pre download) and there is still a demand for original vinyl among die-hards.

I love all the music from the Mod stuff in the mid sixties right through to the tunes played at the Northern Clubs, AKA Northern soul.

Anyone who wants hear what its all about, listen to my 5 in a row's below. There is a lot of crossover between the genres. For instance, Dobie Grays 'The In Crowd' is a big Mod favorite, whereas Dobie Gray singing 'Out On The Floor' is a huge Northern Soul floor filler. The Mod stuff will be a lot more British, whereas the Northern Soul is mainly 60s/70's American soul R&B.

I wont recommend any song which I don't already have in my collection. Hope you enjoy....
