Why You Need The 60 Day Squidoo Challenge
Hello friends,
Many of you who are considering taking The 60 Day Squidoo Challenge are already on Squidoo, but you came here to create a web presence and not to make a supplemental income. Before I took the challenge, that was me, too. I got a little bit of traffic and made a (teeny weeny) little bit of money on Squidoo, but not on purpose. Many of you haven't made anything at all. AT ALL. Squidoo's Google PageRank (currently 7!) is good for your back links, but there has to be more.
And there is.
This lens will help put you on the road to reaping the rewards of a full, purposeful Squdioo experience...if you're up for the challenge, that is!

The Problem - Not Getting the Most Out of Squidoo
I have been reading about how to make money with Squidoo for a while now, and the fact of the matter is, most of us COULD make some extra monthly income through Squidoo, but we don't for the following reasons:1) We don't have enough lenses.
2) The lenses we have aren't all that hot.
3) We don't update our lenses.
4) We don't get any real traffic to our lenses.
Number one is the biggest factor in the equation - have you ever visited the profiles of some of the most giant squids? Just take Captain Squid for instance (Loyalis). The list of lenses this man has created just goes on and on and on. There must be hundreds of them. Which is why his Squidoo income is in the THOUSANDS monthly.
That's right - I'm not joking.
Such giant squid success takes time and commitment that most of us simply do not have. However, us regular squids should be able to at least make our Squidoo efforts worth a couple hundred bucks a month or more. That should be bare bones for all of the great knowledge, writing, and promoting that we do.
Don't you agree?
The Good News Is...
You don't have to hope and pray that your lenses make money - there are things that you can deliberately and systematically do to create a supplemental income FOR FREE using Squidoo lenses! No scams, no recruiting, no kidding.
And that's what I will be doing for the next 60 days.
The Solution - Create a Full Body of Lenses
You see, friends, I'm on a mission. For the next 60 days, I will be strategically creating a minimum of one quality Squidoo lens per day with the goal of building the foundation for a supplemental Squidoo income that will continue to bear fruit for years to come. It won't be easy, but with strategic building and a little commitment, I can make it a low-maintenance cash machine.And I'm inviting you to do the same.
The Goal
The goal is to create a dynamic monthly income through Squidoo in a couple of months. We won't get paid for what we do in August until October, so the focus during this 60 days focusing is creating and maintaining quality lenses. Each month, if you add quality lenses that are regularly updated and promoted, you will see your earnings go up. If that happens, you have been successful.
Just do your best, learn from the 60 Day Squidoo challenge community, and watch your income increase!
Backtrack: What Exactly IS Squidoo?
Just in case you are brand new, here's a brief before we move forward.

Squidoo is a community website that allows users to create pages (called lenses) for subjects of interest. Squidoo is in the top 500 most visited sites in the world, and in the top 300 most viewed in the United States.Squidoo.com traffic details Alexa.com. Squidoo grew 91% in 2008, and had 900,000 handbuilt lenses as of February 1st, 2009.
How It All Works
You can create and promote your lenses with a financial goal in mind because, in case you didn't know it, Squidoo's payment system is pretty transparent. Between the FAQ page and the Squidconomy lens, here's the skinny on what you can make:
Besides commissions made directly from Amazon, CafePress, and other affiliate sales from your lenses, Squidoo splits its Adsense revenue with lensmasters, 50/50. The money is then distributed based on lens rank. Here is the breakdown for July 2008:
There appears to be 4 distinct Squidoo payout levels, with the cutoff roughly being the following:
Tier1: LR Below approximately 2,000 ??
Tier2: LR Between 2,000 and 10,000 (Approx.) ??
Tier3: LR Between 10,000 and 100,000 (Approx.)??

The Monetary Possibilities
Crunch the numbers for yourself - if you had 60 lenses in Tier 1, you would make approximately $485.40 in Adsense revenue sharing ALONE each month, above and beyond the direct sales revenue that you would make. While it is pretty challenging to have 60 lenses in the upper crust of Squidoo's ranking system, any mix of lenses between the three tiers could generate enough income to justify your building and routine maintenance of them. Furthermore, the longer you stick with it, the more likely you will be to actually have 60 in the top tier, plus multiple lenses in the other tiers. The top money makers have been doing this for a long time, so we can't get discouraged by comparing ourselves to them. However, we deserve our piece of the Squidoo pie as well!So, if you're a home business owner looking to promote yourself and increase your web presence or just someone who likes the idea of making money without ANY financial investment at all, this challenge is for you.
The 60 Day Squidoo Challenge Rules
In order to officially participate, you must make The 60 Day Squidoo Challenge lens a favorite. This will give you the option of commenting and leaving links to your lenses. Commenters who do not favorite this lens will be warned, and then their comments will be removed if they do not take action. Making this lens a favorite will also give you access to The 60 Day Squidoo Challenge Group where you will get reciprocated support from group members who will visit and rank your lens to help you improve your lensrank. We work on a "You Comment, I Follow" basis, meaning that if someone shows your lens some love, simply return the favor!
**NEW** Don't forget to bookmark (Digg, StumbleUpon, etc.) your favorite lenses, and please do the same for lenses you visit that belong to the challenge. It will help everyone :-)

- It's August 6, 2008, and I have created this lens and How To Find Enough Content To Write AT LEAST One Squidoo Lens a Day, Every Day! so that makes two lenses for the day. Bookmarking the 60 Day Challenge lens in StumbleUpon and Digg.
Coming back later to add pictures - this was a major lens and effort, so I'm tired. - August 7, 2008 and I have completed How To Study the Holy Bible More Effectively and With Confidence, finally. It needs some serious spice, but I will have to do it later. The content is there, so I can come back later with fresh eyes to figure out how to make it "pop".
On a brighter note, The 60 Day Challenge was blessed by a Squid Angel! Just look at the rank! I worked hard bringing this lens and 10 Things Moms Can Do To Reduce Environmental Impact AND Have Healthier Kids up to snuff. I don't think that one got blessed, but it is about to break Tier 1 if it continues getting traffic and ratings, so I would LOVE some attention on that lens, wink wink ;-) - It's August 8, and a LOT is going on. I can't get into the Olympics because I am focused on making this work. Stumbled upon The Ever Project, an offshoot of Squidoo, and found out through a hands-on experience that Ever lenses count as Squidoo lenses! On an emotional tyraid, I created http://worst.pizza.ever.com about my bad experience with some new junk from Pizza Hut. I am not counting this lens toward my goal of one a day. However, I began to see the HUGE monetary potential of The Ever Project, so I created http://worst.jobs.ever.com as a serious lens, but it will take a while for me to develop.
So, I'm still liable for one lens today, but I already know what it will be about, and it won't take long to build.
**NOTE** I'm pretty sure that 10 Things Moms Can Do To Reduce Environmental Impact AND Have Healthier Kids got blessed by a Squid Angel, too! It was in the 2100s last night for overall rank, and is now #873! Whoo hoo! That's two Tier 1 lenses already! So, I have to work on bringing my other older ones up to snuff. I can see that this is a real balancing act...
Will post today's lens in a few. - It's early in the morning on August 9, and I took a while finishing http://worst.jobs.ever.com. I probably should have followed my first mind and created another Facebook lens, but this one presented a challenge that I couldn't pass up - the design of Ever lenses. It's very drab, so I did all that I could to spice it up. I don't know...but I think that will be my last one until I learn more about how to leverage those kinds of lenses.
In the meantime, I have another one to do today (The worst jobs lens was technically for yesterday), and it's going to have to be an easy one because I have been spending too much time on Squidoo. It has paid off with two Tier 1 lenses in 3 days (Woot!), but I have to create a balance.
Will be visiting challenge members' lenses and profiles today to make for good networking :-)

Had such a long day that I had to make today's lens a quickie. So, it's a SquidLit lens, a Squidoo site just for book reviews. It's the review of the best success book I have ever read in my life! http://www.squidoo.com/polishing_the_diamond_in_the_rough - Day Five August 10, and things are going well. Although my life is really busy, I still managed to create a SquidLit lens for The Color Purple. Since I have a Facebook group devoted to the movie, tonight I plan on fully developing this lens plus a lens for the movie, which should drive some non-Squidoo user traffic to the lenses. Hopefully some social bookmarking and new squids will come out of it :-)

- I've been on Squidoo three months already and wished I'd found your lens earlier. There are lots of helpful how-to lenses but I truly enjoy the ones that show another lensmaster's step-by-step progression. I think that helps newbies leap-frog some of the standard mistakes we make while we're still learning. Great lens. :)
