A Stop on the Great River Road.

Elsah is a delightful little town found just off the Great River Road and across from the Mississippi river. It is just a short distance from downtown St. Louis and a great place to take a day trip.

I find it a wonderful place to visit on during a Sunday outing as we drive down the Great River Road in Illinois.

Autumn in Elsah

beautiful fall colors

I enjoyed our trip last month so much that I decided I must visit it again in the Fall. Today is a beautiful fall day in mid October and we took a drive up the Great River Road to Elsah, Illinois.

This is a home decorated for fall.

Very nice lens. Thanks for promoting Elsah. I have opened an art gallery in Elsah called Fishback Gallery. It's located right next to the LaSalle Street Cafe at 18 LaSalle Street.

Sounds like a great little place to visit. I used to know a lot of nice little towns on the river...but haven't seen them in many, many years...so I don't know what they are like now.
    Beautiful pictures, as usual.

OMG....took your advise and visited Elsah this past weekend. Beautiful village that makes you think you stepped back in time. Ate at the bakery.....homemade pie and a great grinder sandwich. AMAZING! Not sure when the last time I had a piece of real homemade pie. Continued up the River Road to Grafton and a stop at Piasa Winery capped a wonderful drive. Thank you!

Great minds think alike, Mary Beth. LOVE Elsah and the River Road area, too. There's a tiny village nearby Elsah called Chautuaqua where I stayed for vacation a few summers when my sons were small that is also just delightful. It is a private community, but fortunately we were invited by friends there. Thumbs up and lensrolled. :-)

What a pretty little town. I love you photos, especially the creek bed. Makes me long for a day way back when. (Big sigh!)
