How I Got Started Playing Chess!!

I have played and enjoyed the game of chess since I received a small portable set from a neighbour at the age of 12 and well in advance of the more commonly found electronic hand-held games now available.  I advanced to the computer-based form of the game with the arrival of the ZX Spectrum which included a basic chess program in it's range of software.  I then got a Kasparov Chess Trainer desktop game to play my moves on and would commonly set it to play at the highest level.  I then added chess software to my Macintosh Computer system and found the challenge a real bonus when human players were thin on the ground.  Over the years I had mainly played casual games versus players of unknown ability. It seemed that chess players tend to be either well camouflaged or remain out of sight for the most part and are infrequently found in the mainstream of life.

When I discovered Internet Chess sites, which I will provide a list of below, it was an absolute joy to behold and I have since played almost every day without fail as of 1999. Of primary importance is the GUI (Graphic User Interface) as that will determine your playing experience and thus enjoyment of the game. I won't by any means infer I have played on all the possible chess sites that are out there but have experienced enough to be able to recommend some that I regard as possessing the quality to match the demands of the game.
