67 Mustang Intorduction

The Mustang was completely redesigned for 1967. It was longer and wider, but it did have the same 108 inch wheelbase of its predecessor. The grille opening was enlarged for a decidedly meaner look, while the rear taillight panel was concave. The fastback became a full fastback, and simulated rear quarter panel scoops were used on all three body styles.

Ford's success in the sixty's had caught other companies unprepared in 1964 with the debut of the new Mustang coupe, but now they were poised to catch up. Mercury introduced its fancy version of the Mustang--the more luxurious Cougar--in 67. Chevrolet, which had made little effort to respond to the Mustang through its dying Corvair, chose to create the entirely new Camaro for 1967, with Pontiac's sister act Firebird following six months later.

The 67 received a jazzy new body, a wider track for better road grip, a more diverse range of engines and a longer options list. Must-haves for the big budget crowd now included a Tilt-Away steering wheel; a built-in heater/air conditioner; an overhead console; a Stereo-Sonic tape system; a SelectShift automatic transmission that also worked manually; a bench seat; custom exterior trim group; an AM/FM radio; Fingertip speed control; and front power disc brakes.

67 Mustang Questions & Answers

Question: What kind of supercharger can i put on a 67 Mustang Coupe?
i have a 67 mustang coupe and i want more power and a better sound.

its a 302 and i want a kick and a good sound.

Answer: Here is a web site for info to hop your 302 over 400+hp aspirated.

Question: How much should I try to sell my '67 mustang for?
I inherited a '67 mustang from an uncle and have been putting some money into it. This is the basic stats- Engine rebuit and c4 trans resealed 8000 miles ago. New seats, headliner, carpet, and dash (all black). New black steering wheel.
New blue paint job about a year ago. New lining in trunk and new dual exhaust.
There's no visible rust or body damage and all the chrome trim is new. There's no speakers or radio.
Can anyone give me a roundabout value of the car in their opinion?
Thanks

Answer: you give a good description, but leave out the biggest details, body and engine, is it a fastback, v8?

Coupes values are determined by the investment in them, but sell for less than. Fastbacks bring full return on investment and maybe more.

you can list it local or on craigslist for a fast local sale or put it on Ebay to get top bid

without seeing it, I would guess $6000-7000 for a coupe and double that for a fastback.

Question: Is it unlikely to find a '67 Mustang for $6000-9000 that runs and looks great?
I am sure this is anyone's wet dream to be able to find the little old lady who babied her Mustang and now wants to sell it but has no idea what it is worth. But does anyone know for sure that it is possible to buy a '67 Mustang coupe for 6-9 thousand that is in very good to great running and looking condition? Or am I smoking? How does one determine the value of these cars if there is no Kelley Blue Book on them because they are so old? I also can't run a Carfax check on them because of the year. Any suggestions? Thank you all in advance.

Answer: Join a Mustang group like the one below.

As long as you aren't picky and expect a fastback, GT or big block you can find some reasonable coupes.

watch craigslist.org and ebay. but be careful of shipping cost and untold rust when buying across the country. best to try to find something local. and get a Old Cars Price Guide at a book store or order it online http://www.oldcarspriceguide.net/

Question: How do I remove the engine of my 67 mustang?
got a 67 mustang with an engine that needs to be overhauled, where do I start?

Answer: I start by taking the hood off the car.
Drain and remove radiator.
I pull the engine without the transmission but putting it back in requires a little patience. Use jack stand to support transmission.
Disconnect everything from engine.
Lift with hoist, I use the chain bolted to the manifold bolt using longer bolts.
Lift engine out and install on engine stand.
Reverse above to install.

Question: How can you make a 67 Mustang handle big horsepower without a roll cage?
Or is a cage the only way to strengthen the unibody of a Mustang? I know subframe connectors are a joke on these cars. I am running 11.80's, but it is a street car. I would like to build a chassis and drivetrain to handle (some day!) 700-800 horsepower. My body is already "rippled" from running the e.t. that I do. I'd like to make sure that car is rigid enough to prevent this in the future.

Answer: if you get into 10 second et's i believe you have to have a roll cage to race. you should check out chassis specialty shops for proper chassis stiffening.

Question: Where can I find an old 67 mustang that I can work on?
I want to acquire a old, beat up For Mustang fastback to fix up and restore, but nothing around my area seems to have one.... does anyone know where I can find one?

Answer: LemonFree.com, ebay motors, craigs list, newspaper, www.oldcartrader.com. Be patient. Even a beat up '67 Fastback is quite expensive and sought after. Also, if you don't have the mechanical knowledge to do it from frame to finish, or you have a bunch of money to let someone else build it, don't start. You'll only ruin it and end up junking another classic car. Good choice in cars though. Good luck.

Question: Can you install airbags on an old 67 shelby mustang?
I was thinking about purchasing an old 67 shelby mustang for my daughter or an old international harvester scout for her 16th birthday and I was wondering if it would be possible to install airbags on either one of these old cars and around how much it would cost. Thank you!

Answer: No............ and if you were to find something that might work, first where would it be mounted and second the cost and liability would cost more than the vehicle.

Question: Profit of restoring a 67 mustang?
I have just purchased a 67 mustang for 6500 and has a new engine. the interior and exterior is in good condition. Is it worth it to invest the time and money to fix it up? What is the maximum profit i could make?

Answer: Paint and seat covers can hide some pretty hideous secrets!! It's REAL easy to "mud over" banged up panels and put carpet over hack-patched floor boards, I seen it PLENTY of times. Until you know the ACTUAL condition of your Mustang, you're wasting your money. Brakes and electrical are REAL wallet openers. From there you have to have a plan of what to do: restoration, resto-mod, etc. Don't forget to add that initial 6500 into your profit figures.

Question: Should a Chevrolet Engine be put into a '67 Ford Mustang?
My dad wanted me to research on wether a Chevy Engine could be put into a '67 Ford Mustang. So i am going to find out if anyone out there can answer my question. Should a Chevy Engine Be Put Into a '67 Ford Mustang?

Answer: SUCH BLASPHEMY!

Question: What are important parts I need to focus on when restoring a 67 Mustang?
It doesnt run i got an overhaul kit for engine. I want to know what are other safty things to take care of and how much. Its a little rusty but not to bad.

Answer: Body rust is easily repaired. Watch for rust around suspension parts, especially in the front end. Make sure you do a good job on the brakes and suspension, then do the body (except for paint), then do the engine and transmission (if necessary). Redo the interior, then paint the car. Good luck!
