69 Mustang Introduction

First Generation Ford Mustang

Conceived by Ford product manager Donald N. Frey and championed by Ford Division general manager Lee Iacocca, the Mustang prototype was a two-seat, front-mounted engine roadster. This would later be remodeled as a four-seat car penned by David Ash and John Oros in Ford's Lincoln-Mercury Division design studios, which produced the winning design in an intramural design contest instigated by Iacocca. To cut down the development cost and achieve a suggested retail price of US$2,368, the Mustang was based heavily on familiar yet simple components. Much of the chassis, suspension, and drivetrain components were derived from the Ford Falcon and Ford Fairlane (North American). Favorable publicity articles appeared in 2,600 newspapers the next morning, the day the car was "officially" revealed. A Mustang also appeared in the James Bond film Goldfinger in September 1964, the first time the car was used in a movie.

Original sales forecasts projected less than 100,000 units for the first year, but in its first eighteen months, more than one million Mustangs were built.

Question: What is a good estimate to have an engine installed into a 69 mustang

Answer: It depends. What engine are you talking about?

Question: I have a 69 Mustang Mach 1 original is it worth more repainted or left original?
Engine runs good and Interior is in good shape. 72,000 original miles. I bought it new and still own it. I am trying to decide whether to get a little body work done, right fender bender and a few hail dents and painted or a complete new paint job which would cost about $7,000.

Answer: What engine? Want to sell it?

Question: What are the main differences between a '68 and '69 Mustang?
I'm looking into buying one and they both look very similar! Any suggestions?

Answer: Of course they look similar. People bought the "look", therefore the different years have a family resemblance.
'67-'68 are considered Gen II...'69-'70 are considered Gen III.
Gen III cars were longer, lower and wider. And the Gen III were several hundred pounds heavier. Put a Gen II next to a Gen III
You could tell the difference quite easily, styling and size.
Both generations had pretty much the same mechanicals and options.
Pretty much depends on which you like better.

Question: After converting my 69 mustang from drum to dics breaks I cant get a peddle?
I replaced the master cylinder 3x, calipers, break lines 2x, roters, and porporation valve 2x? Any ideas?

Answer: Had same problem, had someone help me bleed brakes.First step was me at right rear open bleeder screw and helper push pedal down once,me close bleeder and then helper release pedal. We repeated this until brake fluid was present then moved to left rear, right front then left front. After all this then we could pump the pedal up and bleed the rest of the air out of the system.Be sure the bleeder screws are at the top of each caliper or if not then it is possible you have installed them on the wrong side of the car.

Question: Whats cheaper buying 69 mustang GT or fixing a bad one?
I dont know which is cheaper so if you guys can help me figure out around the cost for each that would be great. The car that is isnt worn down is going to be average looking in case that helps.

Answer: Hi. Antique Mustangs in good shape are hard to come by cheap. Dunno about a GT in 1969, but i know i kinda liked the Mach 1.....and the Boss model from back then. As with any antique car, the list of original options and the more of them makes a certain Mustang more desirable. And of course, lots of "clones" out there nowadays.....i am not much of a Ford guy but i bet a few old 6 cylinder Mustangs have been rebuilt with powerful 8 cylinders and painted and re-badged with higher dollar emblems........That's the way it is with the old Chevy Camaro's........try to find a 6 cylinder one, original motor. If you buy a re builder......just make sure you buy it as cheap as you can......the parts are quite pricey!!! Good Luck!!
