- You are right Jefferson Davis home is listed in the historical landmarks of Mississippi. I couldn't list all of the sites or else this article would not have a stopping place :-) I did list the ones that I am familiar with. Perhaps I will do a second article on places I would like to see and include Jefferson Davis home there.

- These are truly beautiful homes! I have been to Shiloh several times myself. When I was a teenager, I actually jumped in the Tenn. River right there at the drive around by the edge of the river. I recently returned and photographed a butterfly at approx. the spot where we crazy teens took a swim (If you wish, you can see the butterfly on Zazzle). I never go to Shiloh though that I don't think of all of the lives lost there and all of the Southern gentlemen buried in unmarked mass graves. It is truly a sad reminder of one of the worst times in our country's history. As for the Antebellum homes, my sister owns one, not picture above, and one of her daughters was married there in true Southern / Antebellum style :) Oops, is my heritage showing?!!!! lol

- Longwood is one of the homes we've visited more than once. It's an amazing place, frozen in time with the tools still lying where the workmen from the north left them when the War broke out.

- Beautiful, beautiful places. We have driven by a few of them on trips through the state, but have never stopped. I'd love to take one of those Mississippi River cruises that stops at the antebellum homes. What a treat that would be.

- Thanks so much for collecting these sites together and showcasing them so beautifully. A real taste of a bygone age. While it is lovely to think of these places in their everyday life guise, it is ghastly to think that the houses were built on the wealth generated by slavery. Our two countries share this past error and must strive to do all we can to put such behaviour behind us and aspire to greater things. The inclusion of the war graves is a poignant reminder of the war that began the end of slavery in your great country.

- I might be wrong but this page enters the World History category along with the travel one.
I've never been to the US and, unless ocean solidifies, I never will but I would have like to visit those states from the Southern US from which I've learned a bit while reading historical accounts of the 19th century lifestyle. In any way, I definitely like the architecture!
Blessed by a passing angel on Squidoo.

- We used to travel through Vicksburg when our daughter lived in Texas. We ate at a mansion that is now a B&B and has an upscale restaurant. Wish I could remember its name. We also took a tour of the house. We did not spend the night--it has haunted rooms! (Not the really the reason we did not stay there; we only found the house by reading a brochure for the area.)

- Very interesting lens! Even though I have never been to Mississipi I would love to come and visit these places. If you ever come to Greece, pay a visit to Handrian's Library and all the other historical monuments of Athens.
