A chef reviews the Kitchenaid professional mixer.

Professional 600 6 Qt. Stand Mixer Cayenne Red

I have been asked many times what equipment I use and especially what mixer I prefer at home. I use the Kitchenaid Professional 600 mixer. Why? Well, I have three main reasons.

First this Kitchenaid 6 qt mixer has the capacity for larger recipes and in fact you can double most home cookie recipes which cutts down on your work and time.

I also am a big fan of the 575 watt motor. I have used a lot of mixers and nothing is worse than having it bog down on you while you are kneading dough.

The Kitchenaid Professional 600 Mixer comes with a whisk paddle and dough hook. I like the fact that everything is included and I can start working as soon as I take it out of the box.

Perspective on the Kitchenaid Professional 600 Mixer

Reason I Prefer the Kitchenaid Professional 600 Mixer

  • Plenty of power - I have used mixers in the past that would bog down and over heat mixing a block of room temperature cream cheese. The 575 watt motor will knead even the toughest dough.

  • Easy to clean - You do not have to break the whole thing down to clean it. You pull out the bowl and the attachment and wipe it down. That is it!

  • Industry Standard - The Kitchenaid Professional 600 mixer is the top of the line in stand mixers. Consumer trade magazines and customers consistently rate the 6 quart Kitchenaid mixer at the top of the list in quality and price.

  • Made in America -The Kitchenaid Professional mixer have been made in Greenville, Ohio assembled by hand since 1919

Kitchenaid Attachments

Great Attachments for Your Kitchenaid Stand Mixer

Pasta Excellence Kit - Includes - KRAV,KPCA & KPRA

  • One of the easiest and tastiest things in the world to make with the right equipment is fresh pasta. In no time you can be making a vast variety of different pastas once you learn a few easy steps. Nothing will impress guests more than homemade pasta. Whether it is lobster and mushroom ravioli in saffron dough or grandma's old recipe for Tortellini, the Pasta Excellence kit is the tool for the job.

Rotor Slicer & Shredder with 4 Standard Cones

  • The slicer shredder attachment to your Kitchenaid stand mixer is a great alternative to the food processor with out all the hassle of cleaning the up after the using the food processor. It is also great for large jobs where you will slice or shred different items for different things with out taking apart a processor each time. This is a great time saver and a way to make fancier items for your parties.

Ice Cream Maker

  • During the warmer months the ice cream attachment makes a great simple dessert that will impress your friends and family. With the solid 2 quart capacity bowl, this is the largest counter top maker in the industry that is easy to store in the kitchen instead of having a big ice cream maker that stays in the garage. This is a product you will want to have on hand as for your summer meals. Making a tasty gelato or fruit sorbet will be a reason to have a social occasion at your house where you astonish your guests. Or you can quickly make the family's favorite ice cream custard for dessert. Nothing you can buy tastes as good as fresh home made ice cream where you control the ingredients.

Refurbished Mixers?

I have been asked several times about refurbished models. How good are they? Do they hold up? How long do they last?

My answer to that is the Kitchenaid Professional Mixer I am using now is a refurbished one and I cannot tell the difference. Plus I am probably a lot harder on my mixer than you would be on yours. Now this is going to sound strange but stay with me, mine spends a lot of time in the car. I often will do demonstrations or cooking parties and I prefer my own tools so my mixer will often stay in a very hot or cold car for hours. An even bigger factor is that at these parties some times it is not handled real carefully by the people I am teaching so your mixer should never take the abuse mine has.

What if something breaks?

How long will my Kitchenaid Professional Mixer last?

I do like the fact that is can be repaired if something goes wrong. I was at my sister's house last Christmas and her 9 year old mixer fell off of the counter and hit the floor. Thank fully the children involved in the incident were unharmed and the mixer seemed fine. A few days later, it began to leak a little grease. So my father and I took it apart on the kitchen table and found where it was leaking. Went on line and ordered some more grease and the instructions on how to reassemble it. It was good as new. I am not telling you to drop yours but most of the parts to repair your mixer are only a click away. More than a few people collect these mixers as a hobby I have seen more than a few from the 30's and 40's so I would dare say they are built to last.
For those of you who are not inclined to repair your appliance yourself, Kitchen Aid has great customer service and will assist you in getting your appliance repaired.

Now I am not telling you to paint your mixer when the warranty runs out, but I wonder if the owner of this mixer needed a mixer

I have no Idea who did this but it is one of my favorites with the WWII army air corp fighter look

No I have had my Imperial Black Kitchenaid Professional 500 mixer for about 8 years now and it is well out of warranty but I like the color so much I can not bring myself to paint it. I should have kept my 15 year old white Kitchenaid 5 quart mixer and painted it but I gave it to a friend who was just starting out as a pastry chef when I got this one and I doubt she will let me come over and paint it now. But maybe when she finally buy that 6 quart mixer she wants I can get it back and paint it any ideas how I should paint it?

    Chef,
Great article. I did no know that most recipes are created on Kitchen aid mixers. That makes so much sense though. Have you painted yours yet?
