70 Mustang Question & Answers

Question: What would a 70 sports roof mustang be worth?
I recently found a1970 sports roof mustang in a junk yard. The body is all there and all the glass is there. It is just a plain Jane 302 model. Is it worth going to get it? I can probably get it for next to nothing.

Answer: just the shell if worth over 5k and I bet the owner knows it :(

Question: Roughly, what would it cost to replace the starter on a 70 Mustang Fastback w/ a 460 engine?

Answer: Not sure but I want the car lol

Question: How to convert a 70' mustang coupe to a 70' BOSS 302.?
what are all the steps I should take? and a link would be awesome thanks you.

Answer: The BOSS had upgraded suspension and brakes for the rigors of road racing, a Top Loader 4 speed, and a tall gear in the rear. You have a couple of options for duplicating the BOSS 302 motor:
1. 351C heads on a 302 block, Edelbrock now sells an intake for either 2V or 4V heads, Price Motorsports is a good place to start for this project.
2. Buy a new BOSS 302 from FRPP, it doesn't have Cleveland heads, but it can be had with some thump!
3. Find a real 302.

A 70 BOSS 302 coupe would be a nice tribute to an American classic, good luck!

Question: What's the cheapest way to get a 70's Mustang Mach 1?
Recently, I have fallen in love with the Mustang Fastbacks (mostly Mach1) from around 1968-'72, but I don't have $20,000 for one in good condition. I have about 4 years to work with. What do I do?

Answer: Look around your local salvage yards or even on ebay for cars that have been in accidents. It will not be easy since lots of people are now buying them so they can fix them up and sell them.

Question: Horsepower for 70 mustang?
i have a 302 in my 70 mustang and was wondering what would be the cheapest and smartest way to get more horsepower. so far i have hooker super comp headers, holley 750 carb, edelbrock performance intake etc. what would you recommend?

Answer: Put a smaller carb on, go with a 600 to 650. Some sort of small cam, and a set of 87 GT Heads. Or you can swap over to a 87-93 motor.

Question: Mustang: Can a put a '95 302 into a '70 that had factory 302?
There is a '95 Mustang GT 302 engine available for $750 and I need to replace my '70 Mustang Conv't's 302 engine. Supposedly this '95 was swapped out at the dealer in '95 for a 351 Windsor because he wanted to add nitrous, etc. The person I'll be buying it from put an aluminum intake on the car so it could accept a carborator. Will this just bolt up to my '70? What else will I need to do? This has a serpentine belt on it. He said if I leave the serpentine belt on here then all I'll need to do is reroute the power steering fluid, besides that everything should just bolt right up and I won't need to change anything else. Since I have an automatic he said the torque converter should just match up so there isn't an issue there either. Please help because this sounds too easy to believe and I'm afraid there is going to be a lot more to this. I don't want to get into something that won't work or will cost a lot more money. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Answer: Yes the motor will bolt right to the k-member and if the trans was bolted up to a 302 then yes it will bolt up just like normal, as far as ignition all you have to do is buy a msd 6al ignition box and a msd coil. Im not sure about the power steering but every thing else will be very easy.

Question: 70 mustang and California smog????
im looking to buy a 1970 mustang in California and was wondering if i have to smog it when i buy it or is that the sellers job, it is registered buy the owner already? ?

Question: 70 mustang won't start. Please help?
302 v8 2bbl; I just moved to AK from TX. I've never had any problems with my mustang before. Back in Dec. I took it for a drive like normal. I pulled up into the driveway, and it sounded and felt perfectly normal when I turned it off. The next morning it wouldn't start, and it hasn't started since then. The starter is working, the battery is charged, and it has gas. Obviously the starter relay is working or the starter wouldn't be turning. I've checked the mechanical fuel pump and the fuel filter. They are both working. I've also checked the firing order and replaced the distributor cap and rotor. I've looked everywhere for a loose ground and can't seem to find one. My brother in law suggested timing, but I've been told it's pretty rare to jump timing so bad that the car won't start unless the chain breaks. BTW, I just realised that I haven't checked the timing chain. If it's not that, I've been thinking distributor coil or carb. Any car lovers with any ideas? Thanks

Answer: I've had similar problems with my 66 and 71. California had an additive that would cause the rubber tip on the needle valve that is controlled by the float to stick. Car wouldn't start. I would remove the filter and poke a paper clip into the carb to loosen the needle -- worked. I finally replaced the needles with steel.

You can pop the top of the carb off pretty easy and check your needle valve and float work correctly. Try starting your car after that.

Question: Im looking for a 1969-70 mustang mach 1 in california for no more than $17k.?
ive been looking all over the place and they are either overpriced on random websites, or they are on ebay. i dont really mind ebay, but id rather avoid it. any good places to look? and no....i looked at a couple mags and they only show me stuff nationwide, not california.

Answer: Look in LemonFree.com, Auto-Trader magazine or website, or look in craigslist.

Question: What should i look for im buying a 70 mach 1 mustang?

Answer: Check lower doors, fenders and quarter panels for rust and / or poor rust repairs. These cars (like all domestic cars of that era) were very prone to rust-out in these areas. Practically everything on this car can be purchased new, (aftermarket or N.O.S.) so unless it is just a basket case it could make a great project/weekend ride.
