Currently in the top 10 are the Acropolis in Greece, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Chichen Itza pyramid in Mexico, Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil, Easter Island, the Taj Mahal in India, and the ancient city of Petra in Jordan.
Currently, the Great Pyramids of Giza are the only structure still surviving from the original list of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Pyramids will remain in the new list being voted on 7/7/07.
The final round narrowed the voting to 20 candidates and voting was carried out through the internet or by phone.
Six of the original seven wonders no longer exist: the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

The Taj Mahal- A History Lesson
The Taj Mahal is a masoleum which was commisioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a memory to his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The architecture used in the construction of the Taj Mahal combines Persian, Indian, Turkish, and Islamic styles.
Taj Mahal was constructed beginning in 1648 shortly after Mumtaz's death. The gardens and peripheral buildings were completed about five years later. Earlier Mughal architectural styles incorporated the use of red sandstone. However, Shah Jahan much preferred white marble when comissioning buildings during his rule.
The Taj Mahal Complex
The complex of Taj Mahal itself is surrounded by three walls with the river side open to facing the Funeral complex. Outside of the complex are other mausoleums which contain the remains of Shah Jahan's other wives and also a tomb for Mumtaz's favorite servant. The wall has many (chattris) domed structures which were probably used for viewing areas. The entranceway is an impressive structure made mostly of marble and is similar to that of Mughal architecture. It has archways that can be comparable to that of the main funeral complex. It contains bas-relief and inlaid decorations with beautiful floral motifs. The ceilings and walls are covered in elaborate geometric designs.
Macchu Picchu
Machu Picchu was built during the Inca Empire sometime around 1450. Although the citadel is located only about 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Cusco, the Inca capital, it was never found and consequently not destroyed by the Spanish, as was the case with many other Inca sites. Over the centuries, the surrounding jungle grew to enshroud the site, and few knew of its existence. On July 24, 1911, Machu Picchu was brought to the attention of the West by Hiram Bingham, an American historian then employed as a lecturer at Yale University. He was led there by locals who frequented the site. Bingham undertook archaeological studies and completed a survey of the area. Bingham coined the name "The Lost City of the Incas", which was the title of his first book. He never gave any credit to those who led him to Machu Picchu, mentioning only "local rumor" as his guide. Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza was created and built by the Mayan civilization. It was an area of great importance in terms of commerce and regional trade from the Late Classic to early PostClassic period. Oddly enough, Chichen Itza exhibits multiple styles of architecture from different regions of central and South America. Originally it was believed to be the result of Mayan conquest in central Mexico, but now archeologists believe it to have been caused by cultural absorption. Colosseum
