Yes, I am a Child of the 80's

Yes, I admit it, I am a child of the 80's. By this I mean, of course, that I grew up in the 80's, went to school in the 80's, and my most significant memories take place in, you guessed it, the 80's.

The hair bands, when boys were boys but looked more like girls. The funky hair bands, yes I am thinking of A Flock of Seagulls! And the rap music. When rap was fun and funny! Doug E. Fresh and Will Smith are two of my favorites.

Here I will list some of my favorites in no particular order. Enjoy!

My Favorite 80's Artists...

part 1

Duran Duran - Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf, Girls on Film, The Wild Boys, The Re-fle, fle, fle, flex. duran duran

I am not sure who I liked more Simon LeBon or John Taylor. I am a sucker for a bass player.

Wild Boys:

You got sirens for a welcome
There's bloodstain for your pain
And your telephone been ringing while
You're dancing in the rain
Wild boys wonder where is glory
Where is all you angels
Now the figureheads have fell
And lovers war with arrows over
Secrets they could tell

They tried to tame you
Looks like they'll try again

Beastie Boys - Girls, Fight For Your Right (to party), Brass Monkey.
beastie boys

Talk about your fun rap! Three white boys from Brooklyn, alternative turned rap turned alternative rap. They are still one of my all time favorites. Yes, I saw them in concert.

She's Crafty:

When I woke up late in the afternoon
She had taken all the things from inside his room
I found myself sleeping in the middle of the floor
She had taken the bed and the chest of drawers
The mirror, the TV, the new guitar chord
My remote control and my old skateboard
She robbed us blind - she took all we owned
And the boys blamed me for bringing her home

Warrant - Down Boys, Cherry Pie, Sometimes She Cries.

Now this is what I call a Hair Band! Warrant 80s

Down Boys:

Baby you comb your hair put on your shades you look so cool
Gimme the fun-around make me feel like a fool
You got a lot of nerve to call me cheap even though it's true
I don't care where we go tonight just take me along with you

Woah can we rewind to where we've been
Ooh I wish you'd take a look and see the shape I'm in

Where the down boys go, go. Where the down boys go, go
Where the down boys go I wanna go where the down boys go

Save a Prayer

DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince (Will Smith) - Parents Just Don't Understand, Nightmare on My Street. dj jazzy jeff will smith

Before Will Smith starred in The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire, before he became a movie star. This was the beginning of it all.

Parent's Just Don't Understand:

I remember one year
My mom took me school shopping
It was me, my brother, my mom, oh, my pop, and my little sister
All hopped in the car
We headed downtown to the Gallery Mall
My mom started bugging with the clothes she chose
I didn't say nothing at first
I just turned up my nose
She said, "What's wrong? This shirt cost $20"
I said, "Mom, this shirt is plaid with a butterfly collar!"
The next half hour was the same old thing
My mother buying me clothes from 1963
And then she lost her mind and did the ultimate
I asked her for Adidas and she bought me Zips!
I said, "Mom, what are you doing, you're ruining my rep"
She said, "You're only sixteen, you don't have a rep yet"
I said, "Mom, let's put these clothes back, please"
She said "no, you go to school to learn not for a fashion show"
I said, "This isn't Sha Na Na, come on Mom, I'm not Bowzer
Mom, please put back the bell-bottom Brady Bunch trousers
But if you don't want to I can live with that but
You gotta put back the double-knit reversible slacks"

Night Ranger - Sister Christian, When You Close Your Eyes, Don't Tell Me You Love Me. Night Ranger

I was such a good girl that my friends said the song Sister Christian had to be about me.

Don't Tell Me You Love Me:

It ain't the way you move
It ain't the way that you move me
Oh no
It ain't the way you shake
It ain't the way that you shake me
Oh no
I've lived twenty-five years I'm a
Kid on the run
I've got a pistol for action

CHORUS:
Don't tell me you love me
Don't tell me you love me
Don't tell me, I don't wanna know
Don't tell me you love me
Don't tell me you love me
Don't tell me, I don't wanna know

Quiet Riot - (Bang Your Head) Metal Health, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Cum on Feel the Noize. Quiet Riot

Part of my head banging days. Love the metal bands (and the HAIR).

(Bang Your Head) Metal Health:

Metal Health'll cure your crazy
Metal Health'll cure your mad
Metal Health is what we all need
It's what you have to have

Bang your head
Wake the dead
We're all metal mad
It's all you have
So bang your head
And raise the dead
Oh yeah!
Metal Health
It's not too bad
Bad Bad

Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen, Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car, Suddenly. Billy Ocean

I really love all kinds of music. Can't you tell?

Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car:

Who's that lady
Coming down the road
Who's that lady
Who's that woman
Walking through my door
What's the score
I'll be the sun
Shining on you
Hey Cinderella
Step in your you
I'll be your non-stop miracle
I'm your man
