BrauHaus Salon in Pasadena, California

I work as a notary public and was contacted by someone who wanted me to notarize a document for a friend who had a business in Pasadena. As we made arrangements, I discovered that his friend was in the business of brows. My mind immediately flashed back to the terrible service I received at a pretentious salon in Beverly Hills. The technician—who was barely out of high school—reprimanded me for over-tweezing my brows. My brows are blond and I've never bothered to tweeze them, but the oh-so-hip brow-mistress wasn't buying it. I walked out with $100 worth of products I hated and never used, and swore I'd never enter another brow salon as long as I lived. Still, I had a notary appointment at BrauHaus Salon in Pasadena and had to deal with it. I combed my bangs low and hoped for the best.

Things went well at BrauHaus. My client Zoey was super-busy and we squeezed in a quick notarization between her brow appointments. As I attempted to make my escape, Zoey took the opportunity to focus like a laser beam on my boring, blond brows. As luck would have it, one of her stylists had an opening and would be more than happy to fit me in for a session right then and there. "We get everyone into our chair, even delivery people and the mail carriers," Zoey explained. I couldn't help but notice that Zoey had slight brows like mine, yet they looked great. She obviously knew her stuff. What was there to lose?

When the stylist, Raquel, asked permission to wax my brows I simply laughed. To my amazement, she found plenty of brow hairs to wax, tint, trim, and shape. A string of bad experiences had pretty much cured me of trendy salons, but the atmosphere at BrauHaus was light and informal. Zoey gave my new brows a thumbs-up and gifted me with several products to keep them looking good... brushes, brow powder, and a brow concealer stick. I'm anxious to try Zoey's product line, which is in the works. My brows are fairly low maintenance, but I'm definitely planning to return for a follow up—and I always enjoy shopping in Old Pasadena!
