Hi, I'm John

I'm a commercial real estate broker here in San Diego, CA.

My goal with this page is to share my personal take on living and working in San Diego, and to give you a place to sound off on your favorite places around town, too.

So first, here's a little about me (in the third person!): John Casey is a Director with Cushman & Wakefield and is a veteran of over 32 years of service to his clients.

A California licensed broker, John has extensive experience in and knowledge of the complex issues involved in valuation, marketing, negotiation and structuring commercial real estate sales and long-term ground leases. He is exceptionally skilled at analyzing and underwriting all types of real estate investments, from fully leased buildings to vacant land and is skilled in the development of Argus financial models.

His clients benefit from his detailed research of the physical and political aspects of their properties in order to find overlooked value. Recently, John has sold several properties, such as hospitals and commercial buildings, for redevelopment into residential use.

He has sold or leased over $1 billion of Southern California real estate, and he received the prestigious San Diego Daily Transcript's "Dealmaker of the Year" award.

John received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from San Diego State University and pursued graduate studies in physics and business.

He is a native San Diegan, and his civic affiliations include the San Diego Taxpayers Association, San Diego State University's Scholarship Committee, and he volunteers his time for various activities with the Monarch School Project for homeless children, Centre City Development Corporation and recently worked on the Downtown Master Plan Update Committee.

I'd love to hear from you

It's the whole package, really.

San Diego may not be rated as the world's best at any one thing alone. But, taken together, our oceans and bays, beaches, deserts, mountains and 66 degree average temperature, our 4 major universities, biotech and wireless centers, parks and professional sports teams, produce what I consider to be the best place in the world to live.

Sound off: Should they move the San Diego International Airport to Miramar Air Station??

What do you think?

The San Diego International Airport move to Miramar Air Station was recently voted down. As a result, they are planning to expand the existing facility. One question is whether to tear down a relatively new terminal and rebuild the entire facility as a novel multi-modal transportation center or cut and paste buildings onto the existing facility. The delay to do the job right is about 18 months.

Should they move the San Diego International Airport to Miramar Air Station?

Yes!

MeganCasey says:

Do the job right! Otherwise the city will be grafting onto the existing airport forever. And as downtown develops into a more residential area, it will be nice to have the airport out of the middle of things. And hey, those planes come awfully close to scraping the Laurel St. building as it is!

No way.

My heroes...

You can tell a lot about someone from who their heroes are.

These are just a few people who have inspired me and my work along the way.
  1. Malin Burnham - I have observed Malin Burnham for over 30 years. He is the unclaimed Mr. San Diego. He is a world class sailor and has skippered America's Cup defenders and challengers. He thinks so far out of the box many people are astounded by his foresight. In fact, Malin is so focused on issues,he doesn't get distracted by voicemail, email, a computer or a cell phone.
  2. Roger Casey, my brother - My older brother was an inspiration to me to take on the toughest their is to offer and excel at it. Especially since he was a very bad student in high school, had two children in his late teens and got a masters degree in Physics by taking all his classes at night and working full time.
  3. My kids: Clancy Casey and Megan Casey - My children Clancy and Megan are my heroes for proving that by learning to read at an early age they developed a level of intelligence beyond what most people dream of having for themselves or their children. They are examples that there is no such thing as pressure or the status quo, all you have to do is do the work and love what you do.

Have you worked with me before?

I'd love to hear from you!

Sign my guestbook, just say hi, or tell me how I can do better. I look forward to hearing from you.
