Great vegetarian food for hungry travelers!

If you're a vegetarian traveler you can't ask for a better place to be hungry than Arcata, California. Why? Because you're very likely to find excellent vegetarian cuisine available there. It is also a very nice seaside town to visit.

Arcata, California is home to Humboldt State University, California's Azalea State Reserve, and the Wildflower Café, a small eatery located in downtown Arcata on G Street.

My introduction to the Wildflower Café came one day last May when I was in town for a doctor's appointment. My companion suggested I choose a restaurant, and I decided to look for vegetarian food. Naturally this came to pass because I'm a dedicated vegetarian and have been for many years.

We inquired at a local store and were told about the Wildflower Café on G Street. Though we aren't accustomed to driving around downtown Arcata, it wasn't hard to find this small store-front café with a welcoming sign and hometown atmosphere.

My experience at the Wildflower Café

There aren't many tables there... maybe about ten, from what I can remember. We sat at a table in the center of the room and checked out the lovely menu.

I chose a sandwich -- I honestly don't remember which one -- and an Acai Power Shake. I cannot forget that. It is made of banana, acai, berry juice, and rice milk. My companion ordered a sandwich and soup. The big hits were the Acai Power Shake and the soup, which was delectable and amazing. (Yes, he gave me a taste.) When I go back I will definitely be likely to order them again.

Next time I go I'll probably skip the sandwiches and order a dinner -- something like the vegan Mushroom Stroganoff, which is made of "home-made seitan grilled with mixed mushrooms and red bell peppers" with a "hearty cashew gravy...served over organic linguini." That sounds incredible, as do their other vegan and vegetarian dinners!

...yes! They have a website!

How to get to the Wildflower Café

It is at 1604 G Street, Arcata, CA 95521

Arcata is on the north coast of California about one hundred miles south of the Oregon border. I live in the mountains near there, in the Klamath River Valley. When I need to get out into civilization I often go to the Eureka-Arcata Humboldt County area which is a three and one-half hour drive from my home.

What to do while you're visiting Arcata
