Season previews, breaking news and player profiles

A compilation of top stories from local papers about high school basketball in Pierce County

Take a look at some of the top teams and players in our area as well as the pre-season previews.
Avery Bradley is # 1 on ESPNU
Bradley is # 1, Abdul Gaddy is #14, Peyton Siva is #25, Aaron Dotson is #45 and Clarence Trent is #66

From Todd Milles of the News Tribune, on Avery Bradley:

Texas-bound Avery Bradley, the former Bellarmine Prep standout now at Findlay College Prep in Nevada, was named the No. 1 high school prospect in the final ESPN.com rankings.

Here is what Paul Biancardi, of Scout, Inc., had to say about Bradley, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard, from performances he witnessed in the past month:

"While Bradley built his reputation as a defender, the strides he made on offense are what enabled him to ascend to the top of our rankings. He excels in the open floor, often grabbing a rebound, running with it and finishing with a dunk. In the half court, he works hard to get open and takes what is given without hunting down shots. His midrange game is outstanding, both off the dribble and off the catch. Of late, he has hit the 3-point shot with regularity, which would make him hard to guard with an already strong dribble drive and pull-up jumper. This young man scores, defends and makes everyone around him better. He leads his team to wins and, more importantly, championships."

[More:]

Here's more:

"Bradley is the most complete player in the class and is a difference-maker both offensively and defensively, which is rare. This young man has steadily risen up the rankings since last season. Initially it was his defensive play that propelled him. Bradley plays with great intensity each and every possession, and from a defensive standpoint he is an absolute lockup on-the-ball defender, the best in his class. He uses his length with superior quickness and intelligence to force the offensive player into bad situations. He is committed to keeping his man out of the lane, chasing him off screens and contesting jump shots."

Bradley was recently named the MVP of the National High School Invitational in Washington, D.C., leading Findlay to a win over No. 1 Oak Hill Academy.

You have a very in-depth analysis of Tacoma area basket and Washington sports in general. I was not aware of all the aspects of sports in the area. I not real fan of Washington sports in general. Although, I have started following the Cougars of late...

I am a Kansas Jayhawk fan, and follow them religiously along with Missouri Tigers. Tacoma News Tribune received a shout out for their sports coverage and I have allot of respect for Clayton as a writer.

Good info coach, I will be checking in from time to time on your insight, especially on the game of Basketball.
